Respiratory Therapist Contract Opportunity

Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Description

  • Provide quality patient care with intensive respiratory care and patient transport as medically prescribed.
  • Evaluate patients and recommend treatment plans.
  • Explain purpose and procedures of treatments, tests, and equipment to patients; provide education upon discharge.
  • Conduct physician-prescribed respiratory treatments using ventilatory equipment (invasive and non-invasive), oxygen, aerosol, and nebulizer devices.
  • Perform chest physiotherapy to promote secretion clearance.
  • Perform suctioning (oropharyngeal, nasal, tracheal).
  • Monitor patients using oximetry and capnography.
  • Review chest x-rays to determine need for further evaluation.
  • Perform 12-Lead EKG and basic arrhythmia recognition.
  • Conduct pulmonary function studies (e.g., NIF, VC).
  • Assist with respiratory care procedures (bronchoscopy, percutaneous tracheostomy, chest tube placement).
  • Manage chest drainage via PleurX catheter or similar devices.
  • Provide tracheostomy care, including insertion and removal of tubes (emergent and non-emergent).
  • Perform arterial puncture and assess ventilation efficiency.
  • Follow laboratory testing policies for specimen handling, equipment use, documentation, and quality control.
  • Perform CPR according to BLS and ACLS guidelines.
  • Insert and remove endotracheal tubes using free hand or video laryngoscope techniques.
  • Set up, test, operate, maintain, and monitor mechanical ventilation equipment.
  • Assist with preventative maintenance and repair of respiratory equipment.
  • Document treatments and patient responses accurately in respiratory care records and patient charts.
  • Communicate therapy effectiveness with attending and pulmonary physicians.
  • Report necessary information during shift hand-offs.
  • Maintain accurate respiratory therapy billing and data entry.
  • Perform other assigned duties.

Requirements

  • Current State Licensure (required)
  • BLS certification (required prior to first shift)
  • ACLS certification (required prior to first shift)
  • Active CRT or RRT credential from the National Board of Respiratory Care (NBRC) (required)
  • Minimum of 2 years bedside clinical experience (required)

Start Date

  • ASAP, with a start date around December 8th
