Job Summary for Healthcare Recruiters and Workers
Position: Pharmacist
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure patient and employee safety by adhering to safety protocols including safe patient handling, infectious disease control, and workplace hazard reporting.
- Maintain adequate drug supply and manage procurement, including emergency medication orders.
- Conduct annual inventory and manage removal of outdated medications.
- Prepare, sterilize, label, and dispense medications accurately, including parenteral and non-parenteral products.
- Maintain strict control and documentation of all dispensed drugs, including controlled substances.
- Conduct monthly inspections of pharmacy and patient care areas where drugs are stored or administered.
- Participate in development and updating of hospital formulary and provide it to professional staff.
- Provide education and training to pharmacy staff and other healthcare professionals.
- Counsel and instruct patients on medication use post-discharge, including providing written materials if necessary.
- Maintain confidentiality of patient and medical staff information.
- Participate in quality assurance programs related to drug utilization and effectiveness.
- Monitor patient drug therapy for contraindications, interactions, allergies, and appropriateness; report adverse drug reactions.
- Support antimicrobial stewardship and pharmacokinetic dosing management.
- Participate in Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee meetings and implement decisions hospital-wide.
- Promote continuous quality improvement and support accreditation efforts.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Successful completion of all educational requirements for state licensure.
- Current State Pharmacist licensure.
- BLS certification if required by the state.
- Minimum of 2 years recent hospital experience (highest required years of experience).
- EPIC electronic health record experience.
- Strong communication skills for medication reconciliation and discharge counseling.
- Clinical knowledge in:
- Antimicrobial stewardship (including interpretation of culture results and knowledge of infections such as UTI, pneumonia, SSTI).
- Pharmacokinetic dosing and anticoagulation management.
