Job Opportunity: Sterile Processing Technician (Nights)
Job Summary
Work in a state-of-the-art Sterile Processing Department responsible for the decontamination, high-level disinfection, assembling, sterilization, and distribution of surgical instruments, trays, and pans. The role supports multiple operating rooms, ambulatory care units, and clinics using advanced sterilization equipment and tracking systems.
Responsibilities
- Inspect, assemble, package, and sterilize surgical instrument pans, procedural trays, technical equipment, and surgical case carts.
- Select appropriate packaging and sterilization methods; ensure instruments are clean, properly assembled, and functional.
- Operate steam sterilizers, monitor gauges, load/unload sterilizers, and perform basic maintenance.
- Perform quality assurance by preparing cultures, reviewing test packs, and documenting results.
- Decontaminate surgical instruments and equipment following strict protocols to prevent cross-contamination.
- Receive, store, and document surgical supplies; maintain inventory and par levels.
- Maintain records of equipment use, servicing, and repairs.
- Perform daily quality assurance checks on sterile supplies, stock levels, sterility dates, and procedure carts.
- Handle infectious waste and linen according to protocol.
- Work nights, weekends, holidays, and be available for on-call/callback as needed.
Required Qualifications
- Certified Sterile Processing Technician (HSPA or CBSPD certification).
- BLS certification (American Heart Association only).
- Minimum of 3 years of experience as a Sterile Processing Technician.
- Experience working in a large hospital setting (500+ beds).
- At least 6 months of prior travel experience as a Sterile Processing Technician.
- Two professional references from the last two assignments.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in a Level 1 trauma center.
- Certified Endoscope Reprocessor (CER) certification.
- Experience with orthopedic instrument trays.
Work Schedule
- 40 hours per week, primarily nights.
- Includes weekends, holidays, and on-call/callback shifts as needed.
