Job Opportunity: Sterile Processing Technician (Nights)

Job Summary

Work in a state-of-the-art Sterile Processing Department responsible for the decontamination, high-level disinfection, assembling, sterilization, and distribution of surgical instruments, trays, and pans. The role supports multiple operating rooms, ambulatory care units, and clinics using advanced sterilization equipment and tracking systems.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect, assemble, package, and sterilize surgical instrument pans, trays, technical equipment, and surgical case carts.
  • Select appropriate packaging and sterilization methods; ensure cleanliness and proper assembly of instruments.
  • Operate steam sterilizers, monitor gauges, perform simple maintenance, and assure sterility through testing and documentation.
  • Decontaminate instruments and equipment following strict protocols to prevent cross-contamination.
  • Check and adjust medical equipment; send malfunctioning equipment for repair.
  • Receive, store, and document surgical supplies; maintain inventory and par levels.
  • Perform quality assurance on sterile supplies and instruments, including daily checks on stock levels, sterility dates, and procedure cart accuracy.
  • Maintain critical documentation such as biological indicators and sterilizer load sheets.
  • Work nights, weekends, holidays, and be available for on-call/callback as needed.

Required Qualifications

  • Certified Sterile Processing Technician (HSPA or CBSPD certification).
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (American Heart Association only).
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience as a Sterile Processing Technician.
  • Experience working in a large hospital setting (500+ beds).
  • Prior travel experience of at least 6 months as a Sterile Processing Technician.
  • Two professional references from the last two assignments.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in a Level 1 trauma center.
  • Certified Endoscope Reprocessor (CER) certification.
  • Experience with orthopedic instrument trays.

Work Schedule

  • 40 hours per week, primarily nights.
  • Includes weekends, holidays, and on-call/callback shifts as needed.
