Description

Sterile Processing Technician

Job Description

Work in a state-of-the-art sterile processing department responsible for the decontamination, high-level disinfection, assembling, sterilization, and distribution of surgical instruments, trays, and pans. Utilize advanced sterilization equipment and technology to ensure surgical instruments are properly cleaned, assembled, and sterilized for use in multiple operating rooms and clinical areas.

Key Responsibilities

  • Inspect, assemble, package, and sterilize surgical instrument pans, procedural trays, technical equipment, and surgical case carts.
  • Select appropriate packaging and sterilization methods; ensure instruments are clean, properly assembled, and functional.
  • Operate steam sterilizers, monitor gauges, load/unload sterilizers, and perform basic maintenance.
  • Perform quality assurance checks including preparing cultures, reviewing test packs, and documenting results.
  • Decontaminate surgical instruments and equipment following strict protocols to prevent cross-contamination.
  • Receive, store, and document surgical supplies; maintain inventory and assist with supply orders.
  • Maintain records of equipment use, servicing, and repairs.
  • Perform daily quality assurance on sterile supplies, stock levels, sterility dates, and procedure carts.
  • Handle infectious waste and linen according to established protocols.
  • Work evenings, weekends, holidays, and be available for on-call/callback as needed.

Required Qualifications

  • Certified Sterile Processing Technician (HSPA or CBSPD)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (American Heart Association)
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience as a Sterile Processing Technician
  • Experience in a large hospital setting (500+ beds)
  • Prior travel experience of at least 6 months required
  • Two professional references from recent experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Level 1 trauma center experience
  • Certified Endoscope Reprocessor (CER) certification
  • Experience with orthopedic instrument trays

Additional Information

  • Schedule includes evenings, weekends, holidays, and on-call/callback shifts as needed
  • Full-time, approximately 40 hours per week
