Registered Dietitian

Job Description

  • Provide quality nutritional care to patients through the development, implementation, and monitoring of Medical Nutrition Therapy.
  • Perform nutrition assessments and reassessments, identify nutrition goals and interventions, and monitor and evaluate patient progress.
  • Document medical records clearly and concisely.
  • Develop and monitor enteral and/or parenteral nutrition support regimens in collaboration with pharmacy and medical staff.
  • Collaborate with Speech Therapy regarding diet progression and transitional feeding.
  • Clarify admission orders to ensure nutrition support, diet, and oral supplement orders align with established nutrition support formulary and diet manual.
  • Consider religious, cultural, and ethnic factors in nutrition care plans.
  • Evaluate potential food/drug and herb/supplement interactions.
  • Provide nutrition education and counseling to patients and staff.
  • Develop and implement educational programs for patients and staff; serve as a resource on evidence-based nutrition practice.
  • Attend interdisciplinary team meetings and rounds, communicating nutrition care plans and recommendations.
  • Participate in departmental and facility Performance Improvement Programs, including data collection and analysis.
  • Serve as a resource to food service staff to ensure patient care plans are implemented correctly.
  • Advise food production staff on special preparation techniques for modified diets.
  • Participate in menu development, planning, standardization, and approval of therapeutic menus and substitutions.
  • Perform meal rounds and tray audits to ensure quality and compliance with prescribed diets.
  • Review and approve updates to the therapeutic diet manual annually; educate clinical and food service staff on nutrition care resources.
  • Maintain current knowledge of nutritional practices and theories; pursue continuing education and professional development.
  • Act as a liaison between patients, multidisciplinary teams, medical staff, and food service.
  • Promote patient and employee safety by adhering to safety policies and procedures.

Contract Length

  • 13 weeks

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree with major studies in Food and Nutrition or related field.
  • Current state licensure/certification as required.
  • Current registration by the Commission on Dietetics Registration.
  • Minimum of 1 year of work experience in a facility setting with clinical responsibilities or equivalent.

  • Emphasis on patient and employee safety, including safe patient handling, infectious disease precautions, and workplace hazard awareness.
  • Expected to follow facility guidelines on personal appearance, attendance, and punctuality.
