Shift & Hours
- 12-hour shifts
- 36 hours per week
- Med/Surg unit (acute care surgical floor experience required)
- Mixed stepdown (SD) and medical-surgical (MS) patient care
- Not a PACU position
Patient Population
- Post-surgical kidney, liver, and pancreas transplant patients
- Pre-transplant patients undergoing evaluation
- Patients requiring close monitoring for infection, rejection, and medication delivery
Responsibilities
- Provide nursing care to patients with a range of health problems from simple to complex
- Assume responsibility for an assigned group of patients
- Document patient responses to nursing interventions and medical treatments
- Assist physicians with examinations and minor diagnostic procedures
- Obtain and monitor physiological data; intervene as necessary
- Administer medications, intravenous infusions, and blood products
- Communicate care plans with patients and families, including at discharge
- Make referrals regarding patient care needs
- Delegate tasks to support staff
- Maintain good working relationships with other employees
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Oklahoma
- Minimum 1 year of Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience within the last year
- Acute care experience, including surgical floor experience
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
- Associate of Science in Nursing or Associate Degree in Nursing from an accredited program
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or higher from a board-approved program
- ENT and/or transplant nursing experience preferred
- Preceptor and charge nurse experience preferred
- Ability to respond effectively to cultural and language needs of patients and visitors
- Some computer skills
- Good verbal and written communication skills
Additional Notes
- Nurses may be assigned to either medical-surgical or stepdown patients depending on unit needs and nurse availability
- ICU nurses floated to this unit will work with stepdown patients based on acuity and skill set
