Job Summary
Provide nursing care under general supervision to patients with a range of health problems from simple to complex on a medical/surgical unit. Care includes pre- and post-surgical patients, some requiring stepdown/PCU level care.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage an assigned group of patients, including documentation of patient responses and changes in physician orders.
- Assist physicians with patient examinations and minor diagnostic procedures.
- Monitor physiological data and intervene as necessary.
- Administer medications, intravenous infusions, and blood products.
- Deliver competent patient care and communicate care plans to patients and families.
- Make referrals for patient care needs and delegate tasks to support staff.
Unit Details
- Med/Surg unit; no OR candidates accepted.
- Stepdown/PCU experience required.
- Patient care includes those with new drains, wounds, tracheostomies, ostomies, nasogastric tubes (NGT), or double lumen hemodialysis catheters (DHT).
- Nurse-to-patient ratios: 5:1 for surgical patients, 3:1 for stepdown area.
- Acute care surgical floor experience required.
- ENT and/or transplant experience preferred.
Schedule
- 12-hour shifts
- Approximately 36 hours per week
- Contract length: 13 weeks
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Oklahoma
- Minimum 1 year of Med Surg nursing experience within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing or Associate Degree in Nursing from an accredited program
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
- Experience caring for patients with ostomies, nasogastric tubes (NGT), and double lumen hemodialysis catheters (DHT)
- Acute care experience
- Stepdown experience
- Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience
