Description

Registered Nurse - Operating Room (OR)

Location: Louisville, Kentucky
Employment Type: Clinical Nursing
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Summary

  • Accountable for the care of a group of patients in the Operating Room.
  • Focus on safe, effective patient- and family-centered care, customer satisfaction, and quality outcomes.
  • Responsible for assessing, developing, implementing, and evaluating patient care plans.
  • Supervises licensed and non-licensed staff; mentors and precepts team members.
  • Applies evidence-based practice within a Practice Governance framework.
  • Collaborates with patients, families, and interdisciplinary teams.
  • Participates in quality, safety, and service improvement initiatives.

Work Schedule

  • Shift: 6:30 AM to 7:00 PM, 3 days per week (12-hour shifts).
  • Call: Every 5th weekend and every 15th Friday night.
  • Occasional evening call from 7:00 PM to 9:30 PM, approximately once a month.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Kentucky.
  • Minimum 2 years of Operating Room (OR) experience, including experience within the last year.
  • Acute care nursing experience.
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing.
  • Current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification.
  • Current ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) certification.
  • Experience with Epic electronic health record system.
  • Demonstrated precepting skills.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform patient assessments and reassessments; make sound independent clinical decisions.
  • Develop, prioritize, implement, and revise individualized care plans.
  • Monitor and document patient responses to interventions.
  • Provide education tailored to patient and family needs during stay and at discharge.
  • Delegate tasks appropriately and foster teamwork.
  • Identify opportunities for improvement and participate in regulatory compliance efforts.
