Job Summary

  • Accountable for the care of a group of patients in Labor & Delivery.
  • Focus on safe, effective patient- and family-centered care, customer satisfaction, and quality outcomes.
  • Responsible for maintaining a financially stable unit and promoting professional development with emphasis on evidence-based practice.
  • Supervises licensed and non-licensed staff.
  • Applies the Kristin M. Swanson Model of Care to assess, develop, implement, and evaluate plans of care.
  • Provides patient and family education, comfort, and satisfaction.
  • Mentors and precepts staff.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform patient assessments and reassessments; make sound independent decisions.
  • Initiate, prioritize, implement, and revise plans of care in collaboration with patients, families, and interdisciplinary teams.
  • Monitor and document responses to clinical interventions.
  • Facilitate and evaluate education tailored to patient and family needs during stay and at discharge.
  • Delegate tasks to licensed and non-licensed personnel; function as mentor/preceptor.
  • Participate in quality, safety, and service improvement efforts; comply with regulatory standards.
  • Promote teamwork and effective communication.
  • Recognize and prioritize complex patient care needs, including physical, psychosocial, educational, and safety aspects.
  • Anticipate and plan for discharge needs.
  • Address cultural and ethnic considerations in care planning.
  • Engage in research and evidence-based practice discussions.
  • Promote a safe, clean, and secure environment.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Kentucky.
  • Minimum of 1 year of Labor and Delivery experience within the last year.
  • Minimum 2 years of acute care nursing experience.
  • Current certifications in BLS, ACLS, NRP, and EFM.
  • Experience with Epic electronic health record system.
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing.
  • Demonstrated involvement in quality improvement initiatives.

Education

  • Nursing Diploma or Associate’s Degree in Nursing (ASN).

Shift Details

  • 12-hour shifts, 6:45 PM to 7:15 AM.
  • Every other weekend.
  • 36 hours per week.

Note: Prior travel experience is not specified as required.
