Registered Nurse - Operating Room (OR)
Location: Louisville, Kentucky
Employment Type: Clinical Nursing
Shift: Day (6:30 AM - 3:00 PM), Monday to Friday, no weekends
Hours: 8 hours per day, 40 hours per week
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Summary
- Accountable for the care of a group of patients in the Operating Room.
- Focus on safe, effective patient- and family-centered care, customer satisfaction, and quality outcomes.
- Assist in maintaining a financially stable unit and promote professional development with emphasis on evidence-based practice.
- Supervise licensed and non-licensed staff members.
- Apply the Kristin M. Swanson Model of Care to assess, develop, implement, and evaluate patient care plans.
- Provide patient and family education, comfort, and satisfaction.
- Mentor and precept staff.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform patient assessments and reassessments; make sound independent clinical decisions.
- Initiate, prioritize, implement, and revise plans of care in collaboration with patients, families, and interdisciplinary teams.
- Monitor and document patient responses to clinical interventions.
- Facilitate and evaluate education tailored to patient and family needs during stay and at discharge.
- Delegate tasks appropriately; foster teamwork and mentor staff.
- Identify opportunities for quality improvement and participate in safety and service process improvements.
- Comply with regulatory standards and participate in Practice Governance.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Kentucky
- Minimum 2 years of Operating Room (OR) experience, including experience within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification
- Clinical experience with the following surgical specialties and procedures:
- Hysterectomy
- Gynecology
- Total joint replacements (Orthopedic Surgery)
- General surgery
- Bariatric surgery
- Da Vinci robotic surgery
- Ear, Nose, and Throat (ENT) surgery
- Thoracic surgery
- Neurosurgery (Neuro spine)
- Plastic surgery
Additional Information
- Call required up to 40 hours on a 6-week rotation schedule.
- Emphasis on patient assessment, care plan development/implementation/evaluation, quality improvement, regulatory compliance, patient education, mentoring, precepting, and teamwork.
