Job Opportunity: RN Step Down

Location: Brookfield, Wisconsin
Employment Type: Long-Term Assignment (13 weeks)
Shift: 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM


Job Description

  • Provide nursing care on a Step Down unit with telemetry patients.
  • Experience caring for recovery of surgical patients required.
  • Must have at least 1 year of Med/Surg nursing experience.
  • Work includes every 3rd weekend and evening/overnight (EOH) rotation with staff.
  • May be required to float onsite within skill set or to other nearby sites within 40 miles.
  • Use of EPIC electronic health record system.
  • Prior travel nursing experience is required.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Wisconsin
  • Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
  • Minimum 1 year of Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience, with PCU experience within the last year
  • Med/Surg experience
  • Telemetry experience
  • BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • ACLS certification
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
  • Experience with Epic electronic health record system

Onboarding & Compliance Requirements

  • Professional resume/profile and at least two professional references required prior to submission.
  • Signed assignment agreement and onboarding documents required before starting.
  • Completion of specialty competency exams including:
    • Specialty exam with minimum 80% passing score (updated every 3 years).
    • EKG exam with minimum 80% passing score (updated every 3 years).
    • Core competencies covering HIPAA, Joint Commission, OSHA, and other regulatory topics (updated every 3 years).
    • Epic test-out and training checklist with signed attestation.
  • Health and immunization requirements:
    • MMR: documented proof of two vaccines or positive titer (no declinations).
    • Varicella: documented proof of two vaccines, immunity, or history verified by provider (no declinations).
    • Tdap: valid within 10 years (no declinations).
    • Hepatitis B: vaccination series completion or signed declination.
    • Influenza vaccine recommended during flu season (exemptions accepted with mask requirement).
    • TB screening: 2-step PPD or IGRA within required timeframes; if positive, negative chest X-ray and annual TB questionnaire required.
    • Fit test for N95 respirators (updated annually).
    • Health statement or physical exam prior to assignment and updated annually.
  • Drug screening: 12-panel drug screen within 30 days prior to start and annually thereafter.
  • Background checks and verifications:
    • Criminal background check including SSN trace, OIG, National Sex Offender, and other searches within 90 days prior to start.
    • EPLS check within 90 days prior to start.
    • Employment verification for past 7 years.
    • Education verification relevant to clinical work within 90 days prior to start.
  • Driver’s license or state ID must be current and match address requirements.

Additional Notes

  • Completion of pre-hire modules and onboarding education attestations required.
  • Some optional checklists may be requested by unit leadership after start.
  • Must maintain all certifications and compliance documents updated as required throughout assignment.

This position is ideal for experienced telemetry RNs with Med/Surg background and prior travel nursing experience seeking a long-term evening/night shift assignment.
