Description

Registered Nurse - Labor and Delivery

Location: Indianapolis, Indiana
Employment Type: Long-Term Assignment (approximately 9 weeks)
Shift: 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM


Job Description

  • Work in a Level IV Women & Infants Hospital with a 15-bed Labor & Delivery unit, 20-bed High Risk Unit, and 8-bed OB Triage.
  • Provide care as a Labor & Delivery nurse trained to Level IV standards.
  • Must be familiar with managing Magnesium and insulin drips.
  • Advanced Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certified with skills in advanced external fetal monitoring.

Required Qualifications

Licensure

  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license verified through Nursys within 30 days prior to assignment start.
  • Primary source license verification required within 30 days prior to start.

Certifications

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) - American Heart Association (AHA) certified.
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) - AHA certified.
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) - AHA/American Academy of Pediatrics certified.
  • Advanced NRP certification required.
  • Fetal Monitoring certification (if not covered on competency exam, must have AWHONN, Relias, or equivalent within past 2 years).

Experience

  • Must be trained and experienced at Level IV Labor & Delivery nursing.
  • Prior travel experience is not explicitly required.

Health and Safety Requirements

  • Documentation of immunizations and health status including:
    • Two MMR vaccines or positive IGG titer (no declinations accepted).
    • Two Varicella vaccines, serological immunity, or verified history (no declinations accepted).
    • Tdap vaccine valid within 10 years (no declinations accepted).
    • Hepatitis B vaccination series completion or signed declination.
    • Influenza vaccine is optional; if declined during flu season, mask wearing is required.
  • Tuberculosis screening:
    • 2-step PPD or IGRA within specified timeframes.
    • If positive, negative chest X-ray within one year and annual TB questionnaire.
  • Fit test for respiratory protection required prior to start or onsite (annual update required).
  • Statement of good health or completed physical exam prior to first assignment, updated annually.
  • 12-panel drug screen within 30 days prior to start, updated annually.

Onboarding and Compliance

  • Completion of specialty and pharmacology competency exams with minimum 80% score (max 2 attempts).
  • Completion of core competencies including HIPAA, Joint Commission, OSHA topics.
  • Color vision test completed prior to start and updated every 3 years.
  • Criminal background check including Social Security trace, OIG search, and National Sex Offender registry within 90 days of start.
  • Employment and education verifications completed within 90 days of start.
  • Driver’s license or state ID must be current and match address on file.
  • Professional references: at least two required prior to first assignment.
  • Onsite onboarding and education attestations required.

Additional Notes

  • This is a night shift position in a specialized high-acuity women’s hospital.
  • The assignment length is approximately 9 weeks.
  • The role requires advanced clinical skills in labor and delivery nursing and neonatal resuscitation.
  • Compliance with all credentialing, health, and onboarding requirements is mandatory before starting the assignment.
