Description

RN Dialysis

Location: Cooperstown, New York
Employment Type: Long-Term Assignment (13 weeks)
Shift: 7:00 AM – 3:00 PM (4x10s schedule with on-call rotation including early call 12:00 AM–6:30 AM, late call 7:00 PM–12:00 AM, and Sunday 24-hour call)


Job Overview

  • Provide hemodialysis treatments for adult inpatients in an acute care hospital setting.
  • Unit has 3 dialysis beds, serving adult patients only (no pediatric patients).
  • No continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT) performed onsite.
  • Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:2 on dialysis unit; 1:1 for patients in Emergency Department or ICU.
  • Independently initiate, monitor, and terminate dialysis treatments.
  • Collaborate closely with providers throughout patient care.
  • Troubleshoot dialysis machines independently.
  • Administer medications and manage vascular accesses during treatments.
  • Use Fresenius dialysis machines and document care in Epic.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in New York.
  • Minimum of 1 year of dialysis experience, with dialysis experience within the last year.
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

Patient Population

  • Adult patients only.
  • Higher acuity patients may be encountered.

Work Environment & Expectations

  • Independent work in an inpatient hospital dialysis unit.
  • Collaborative multidisciplinary team environment.
  • Ability to handle on-call responsibilities including overnight and 24-hour Sunday coverage.

Required Onboarding Credentials & Health Requirements

  • BLS certification.
  • Valid RN license verification (Nursys or equivalent).
  • Immunizations and health screenings including MMR, Hepatitis B, Influenza vaccine, Varicella, Tdap (optional), TB test and annual TB questionnaire, Fit test.
  • Physical/health statement.
  • Drug screening.
  • Driver’s license or state ID.
  • Background checks and professional references.
  • Completion of core competencies, unit exam, and skills checklist.
  • Employment and education verifications.
  • Confidentiality and security credential acknowledgements.

Contract Length

  • 13 weeks.

Additional Notes

  • Prior travel experience is not specified as required.
  • Focus is strictly on inpatient hemodialysis nursing care.
