Job Opportunity: RN Surgery (Operating Room)

Location: Passaic, New Jersey
Employment Type: Long-Term Assignment (LTA)
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Work Schedule

• 8-hour shifts, Monday to Friday, 7:00 AM – 3:00 PM
• Call required:

  • Minimum 1 call per week on a weekday from 11 PM – 7 AM (max 2 calls/week)
  • Weekend call once every 5th weekend (Saturday and Sunday, 24 hours each day)
  • Call is taken from home via personal cell phone; no onsite presence required unless called in
  • If called in, must arrive onsite within 30 minutes

Job Summary

• Provide direct and indirect patient care in the peri-operative setting for all age groups (neonates to older adults)
• Coordinate patient care with surgeons and anesthesiologists
• Direct and guide OR technicians and other personnel
• Maintain professional nursing standards and ensure efficient patient flow and unit organization
• Adhere to hospital policies, regulations, and standards
• Participate in performance improvement activities, unit meetings, and in-services
• Serve as a resource for other staff as appropriate

Required Qualifications

• Current and valid New Jersey RN license
• Current BLS (AHA) certification upon hire and maintained
• Current ACLS (AHA) certification within 30 days of hire and maintained
• Current PALS (AHA) certification within 30 days of hire and maintained
• Minimum 1 year perioperative experience or on-the-job training
• Certified Nurse OR (CNOR) certification preferred
• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred
• Pre/Post-operative experience

Required Credentials and Compliance

• Valid RN license verified through Nursys
• Prime Basic Pharmacology Exam (minimum 80%)
• Prime Basic Rhythm Interpretation Screening (minimum 80%)
• COVID-19 vaccination and booster or completed declination
• MMR vaccination or positive titer
• Annual fit test for respirator mask (must be completed prior to start if not done onsite)
• Hepatitis B vaccination (declinations not accepted at some locations)
• Influenza vaccine or declination (required seasonally)
• TB test within one year of start date
• Driver’s license, State ID, or Passport
• Varicella vaccination or immunity titer
• Tdap vaccination (declinations not accepted at some locations)
• Annual physical/health statement confirming fitness to work
• Prime OIG check
• Prime Core Competencies Exam (minimum 80%)
• Prime Skills Checklist
• Annual Prime Color-blind test
• National criminal background check within one year of start date (with some state-specific exceptions)
• Prime Agency Attestation (completed after all credentials uploaded)
• Prime SAM/EPLS exclusion check
• Prime Form I-9 (employment eligibility verification)
• Prime Specialty Exam (minimum 80%)
• Signed job description acknowledgment
• Workplace Violence Prevention training (DCI/BVP)
• Drug screening (minimum 10-panel including THC) within 60 days of start

Additional Notes

• Must be able to take call as required without exception
• Must be prepared to respond promptly if called in during call hours
• Preference given to candidates with CNOR certification and BSN degree
• Experience in pre-operative and post-operative nursing care is important

This position is ideal for experienced perioperative RNs who are comfortable with call responsibilities and working in a fast-paced surgical environment.
