Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Opportunity

Location: Charlottesville, Virginia
Facility: University of Virginia Medical Center
Hospital System: University of Virginia Health System


Assignment Details

  • Type: Travel/Contract
  • Length: 13 weeks (possibility to extend through 01/03/2026)
  • Shift: Nights
  • Hours: 36 hours per week (can approve up to 40 hours for time off)
  • Holiday: Every other holiday off
  • Cross-Training: Expected to cross-train to Mother/Baby unit

Unit & Patient Population

  • Average annual deliveries: 2000
  • Private Labor Rooms: 8
  • Private Triage Beds: 4
  • OB Operating Rooms: 2
  • Patient acuity: Low risk (including certified nurse midwife population) and high risk (maternal fetal medicine)

Required Certifications

  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
  • Fetal Monitoring (AWHONN Intermediate)
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) – may be required depending on unit
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) – may be required depending on unit
  • CHEMO certification if working in Oncology/Infusion (ONS/ONCC Chemotherapy Immunotherapy Certificate)
  • TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) – may be required depending on unit
  • CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) – required for Behavioral Health nurses
  • Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM) – may be required depending on unit

Licensure

  • Virginia RN license required (can submit with VA license pending)
  • Primary source verification required within 30 days of start

Orientation & Testing

  • Pass/Fail testing during orientation for adult inpatient RN positions and Mother-Baby (includes Basic Rhythm Interpretation Assessment)
  • Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam required
  • Acknowledgment of Pass/Fail Testing required for applicable units

Health & Immunization Requirements

  • Physical exam attesting ability to meet job demands (initial and annual)
  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccination (no exemptions)
  • Negative TB test (2-step PPD or Qgold within 12 months; chest X-ray if positive)
  • Annual TB questionnaire if past positive
  • Rubeola (Measles): 2 vaccines or positive titer (no exemptions)
  • Mumps: 2 vaccines or positive titer (declination accepted but not clearance-holding)
  • Rubella: 2 vaccines or positive titer (declination accepted but not clearance-holding)
  • Hepatitis B: Positive Hep B Surface Antibody titer required or negative Surface and Antigen titers within 6 months
  • Varicella: 2 vaccines or titer (declination required if negative)
  • Seasonal Flu vaccination required annually (no exemptions)
  • Drug testing: 10-panel including marijuana and fentanyl, within 2 months of start and annually

Background & Compliance

  • 7-year criminal background check within 60 days of start, updated annually
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM checks within 30 days of start, updated every 30 days
  • Education verification through third-party vendor
  • Proof of 2 clinical references or hospital evaluation if worked over 1 year with UVA
  • Employment application/resume required
  • Skills checklist and internal evaluation (if applicable) updated annually
  • Fingerprinting may be required depending on unit (facility will notify)
  • Child Abuse and Neglect Registry check required for Behavioral Health and certain units

Facility Specifics

  • Professional appearance guidelines must be reviewed and acknowledged
  • Release authorization, TB screening, traveler compliance forms to be completed prior to start
  • Fit testing required for patient-facing clinical roles (completed onsite if needed)
  • Latex allergy questionnaire required if applicable

This position offers a dynamic clinical environment with opportunities to work in both low and high-risk obstetrics, including maternal fetal medicine, with a supportive hospital system and comprehensive credentialing and compliance requirements.
