Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (Neuro PCU)
Location: Roanoke, Virginia
Facility: Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital
Hospital System: Carilion Clinic
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks (extensions up to 52 weeks available upon request)
Job Details
- Shift: 3x12 hour night shifts (18:45 - 07:15)
- Alternate Shift: 4x12 hour shifts available by request
- Patient Population: Neurosurgery, stroke, medical overflow, epilepsy monitoring, and other neuro-specific diagnoses/conditions
- Unit Info:
- 5 dedicated beds for 24-hour epilepsy monitoring
- Typical nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:5 (confirm comfort with this ratio)
- Licensing:
- Compact nursing license or Virginia single state license required
- Pending VA single state license accepted if traveler holds a single state license from a non-compact state
- Experience: Epic electronic health record experience required
- Holiday Requirement: Must work at least one holiday during the 13-week contract
Required Certifications & Competencies
- ACLS (AHA only)
- BLS (AHA only)
- Other certifications as applicable by unit (PALS, NRP, TNCC, CPI, etc.)
- State nursing license verification and NURSYS verification (must be current within 30 days of start)
- Medication/Pharmacology competency exam as applicable
- Core competency testing and HIPAA compliance (annual updates required)
Required Documents & Compliance
- I-9 or attestation
- Valid Driver’s License or State ID (must be within 100 miles of facility)
- E-Verify or attestation
- Residency Declaration Form (if working on a compact license)
- Background check (7 years, within 1 year of start)
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks (within 30 days of start and updated for renewals)
- 2 clinical references or hospital evaluations
- Employment application/resume
- Skills checklist (annual update required)
- Transcript or diploma verifying highest earned medical degree (required for ER/PCU/TCU and Behavioral Health)
- Physical exam within 1 year, confirming freedom from communicable diseases
- Fit test within 1 year (updated annually)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year (updated annually)
- Immunizations or titers for Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella
- Negative 10-panel drug screen within 30 days of start
- Seasonal flu vaccination or masking during flu season
Facility-Specific Requirements
- Professional photo for badge (no selfies or filters, plain background)
- Completion of Carilion compliance checklist and new hire paperwork prior to start
- Completion of Carilion contract staff orientation manual (not required for inpatient RNs)
- Signature on Carilion Pain Assessment Expectation (for inpatient RNs at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital)
- Carilion Access and Confidentiality Agreement (within 48 hours of signing)
- Fit testing form completion (not required for students)
- Radiation badge supplied by client for new candidates (if applicable)
Additional Notes
- Must include all Return to Office (RTO) dates in submission profile
- Candidates unable to provide a valid driver’s license/state ID within 100 miles of the facility will be canceled
- Must be willing to work a 1:5 nurse-to-patient ratio
- Orientation and compliance documents are time-sensitive and must be completed promptly to avoid delays
