Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)
Location: Roanoke, Virginia
Facility: Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital
Hospital System: Carilion Clinic
Specialty: PCU RN (12 West - Telemetry Progressive Care Unit)
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Details
- Shift: 3x12 hour nights (6:45 PM - 7:15 AM)
- Unit Description:
- 12 West is a telemetry PCU specializing in hospitalist medicine patients, including stroke and neurology cases.
- The unit is a Joint Commission certified primary stroke center.
- Patient Ratios: Approximately 1:5
- Floating: All travelers are expected to float as needed within acuity levels.
- Electronic Medical Record: EPIC experience is required.
Required Certifications & Licenses
- BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA only
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA only
- State RN License (Primary Source Verification within 30 days of start)
- NURSYS Verification (for RNs, within 30 days of start)
- Additional certifications may be required depending on unit (e.g., PALS, NRP, TNCC) — verify with facility/unit requirements.
Compliance & Documentation Requirements
- I9 or attestation
- Valid Driver’s License/State ID (must confirm distance eligibility based on address)
- E-Verify or attestation
- Residency Declaration Form (if working on a compact license)
- Background Check (7 years, within 1 year of start)
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks (within 30 days of start and updated for renewals)
- 2 clinical references (hospital evaluations accepted)
- Employment application/resume
- Skills checklist (updated annually)
- Transcript/Diploma (required for ER/PCU/TCU and certain specialties)
- Education verification of highest earned degree
- Photo for badge (professional, plain background)
- Carilion Compliance Checklist and Access & Confidentiality Agreement (time sensitive, must be completed within 48 hours of signing)
- New hire paperwork (must be completed prior to start)
- Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement (HIPAA compliance)
- Carilion Pain Assessment Expectation signature (for inpatient RNs at this facility)
Health & Safety Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year of start, confirming freedom from communicable diseases
- Fit test within 1 year of start, updated annually (not required for students/practicum trainees)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year, updated annually
- TB questionnaire (required for all candidates)
- Immunizations or positive titers for:
- Rubeola (Measles)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Hepatitis B (titer, vaccine series, or declination)
- Varicella
- Negative 10-panel drug screen within 30 days of start
- Seasonal flu vaccination documentation or masking during flu season
Additional Notes
- Local traveler eligibility is based on distance from the facility:
- 50-99.9 miles: eligible for one 13-week assignment, no extension
- 0-49.9 miles: eligible for one 13-week assignment, no extension, local pay rules apply
- VA State Police Search will be completed onsite on the first day of orientation for certain candidates (home health, hospice, and specific facilities)
- Radiation badges are no longer provided by Aya Healthcare for new candidates; new hires must obtain badges from the client.
This position is ideal for RNs with telemetry and stroke/neuro experience who are comfortable working night shifts in a progressive care setting and have EPIC EMR proficiency.
