Registered Nurse (PCU RN) - Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital, Roanoke, Virginia

Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Details
- Unit: 7 South PCU (Progressive Care Unit)
- Shift: 3x12 hour nights (6:45 PM - 7:15 AM)
- Beds: 24(5) bed PCU specializing in cardiothoracic and vascular surgery and disease conditions
- Patient Focus: Cardiothoracic post-operative patients
- Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 1:5
- Floating: Travelers expected to float as needed to other PCUs and potentially Med Surg units
Requirements & Qualifications
- Experience with cardiothoracic and vascular surgery patients and related PCU equipment is required
- Must have appropriate licensure and certifications as applicable to the unit
Certifications (AHA ONLY unless otherwise noted)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) – as applicable
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Procedure) – as applicable
- TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) – as applicable
- State License Verification (Primary Source Verification within 30 days of start)
- NURSYS Verification (for RNs) within 30 days of start
- CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) – required for Behavioral Health & ER Behavioral Health Annex only
Competencies
- Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam – as applicable
- Competency Exam – as applicable
- Core Parts I, II, III (for subcontractors; HIPAA compliance)
Health & Safety Documents
- Physical Exam within 1 year, free from communicable diseases
- Fit Mask test within 1 year, updated annually (not required for students)
- Negative TB test or Chest X-Ray within 1 year, updated annually
- TB Questionnaire (required for all candidates)
- Immunizations or positive titers for:
- Rubeola (Measles)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Hepatitis B (titer, vaccine series, or declination)
- Varicella
- Negative 10 Panel Drug Screen within 30 days of start
- Seasonal Flu Vaccination or masking during flu season
Background & History Checks
- 7-year Background Check within 1 year of start (all locations lived/worked)
- EPLS/GSA/SAM checks within 30 days of start and updated for renewals
- HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start and updated for renewals
- 2 clinical references required (hospital evaluations accepted)
- Complete Employment Application/Resume required
- Skills Checklist updated annually
- Transcript/Diploma required for ER/PCU/TCU, ER/Behavioral Health, and RRTs
- Education Verification of highest earned degree required
Facility Specific Requirements
- Photo for badge (professional, plain background, no selfies or filters)
- Compliance Checklist and Access & Confidentiality Agreement (time sensitive, must be completed within 48 hours of signing)
- New Hire Paperwork must be completed prior to start
- Fit Testing Form must be completed regardless of prior fit test (except students)
- Contract Staff Orientation Manual review (not required for inpatient RNs as of 7/10/23)
- Carilion Pain Assessment Expectation signature required for inpatient RNs at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital
- Radiation Badge: New candidates must obtain badge from client (Aya no longer provides)
Local Traveler Rules
- Eligibility based on distance from address on driver's license/state ID
- 0-99.9 miles: Eligible for one 13-week assignment, no extensions
- Must provide valid driver's license/state ID within 48 hours of signing
- If address is within 100 miles of facility, assignment may be canceled
This position is ideal for RNs with progressive care experience in cardiothoracic and vascular surgery patients, comfortable with night shifts and floating between units, and who meet the comprehensive credentialing and compliance requirements of Carilion Clinic.
