Job Description

  • Position: Registered Nurse (RN) in Intensive Care Unit (ICU)
  • Unit: Medical ICU
  • Facility System: Ascension Health

Required Credentials & Onboarding Information

Submission Requirements (Before Assignment)

  • Current Nursing License and Primary Source Verification (within 30 days prior to start)
  • Nursys license verification (within 30 days prior to start)
  • Professional Resume/Profile
  • At least two professional references
  • Valid Driver’s License or State ID (must not be expired and must meet address requirements)

Onboarding Requirements (Must be completed prior to or at start)

  • Ascension Cerner Test-Out (Cerner test results and training checklist with signed attestation)
  • Ascension Badge Photo (forward-facing headshot with white or blue background, no alterations)
  • Health Statement or completed physical exam (updated annually)
  • Immunizations and Health History:
    • MMR: Proof of two vaccines or positive IGG titer (no declinations accepted)
    • Varicella: Proof of two vaccines, immunity, or verified history (no declinations accepted)
    • Hepatitis B: Vaccination series completion or signed declination
    • Tdap: Valid within 10 years (no declinations accepted)
    • Influenza Vaccine: Optional, but if declined during flu season (Oct 1 - Mar 31), mask required
  • Tuberculosis Screening:
    • 2 Step PPD or IGRA (Quantiferon/Tspot) with recent testing and annual TB questionnaire
    • If positive, chest X-ray within last year required
  • Fit Test: Required for all travelers; preferred before start, can be done onsite (PAPR not done onsite)
  • Ascension 12 Panel Drug Screen: Within 30 days prior to start, updated annually
  • Criminal Background Check: Includes SSN trace, employment verification, OIG search, national sex offender check (completed within 30 days prior to start)
  • Employment Verification: Past 7 years, updated annually
  • Education Verification: Relevant to clinical work, completed within 90 days prior to start
  • Ascension Skills Checklist: Clinical skills checklist completed within one year, updated annually
  • Ascension Specialty Exam: Completed prior to first assignment, updated every 3 years (minimum 80% passing score)
  • Ascension Core Competencies: HIPAA, Joint Commission NPSG, OSHA topics; completed within a year, updated yearly (minimum 80% score)
  • Ascension EKG Exam: New edition as of Dec 1, 2023; passing score of 80% required, two attempts allowed
  • Ascension Color Vision Test: Completed prior to start, updated every 3 years
  • BLS Certification: Must be American Heart Association (AHA)
  • ACLS Certification: Must be AHA
  • NIH Certification: Group A updated yearly; Groups B-F updated every 2 years
  • CPI/MOAB High Risk Online Portion: Completed prior to start (Nonviolent Crisis Intervention or MOAB De-Escalation Course)
  • Ascension Onboarding Requirements Education Attestation: Completion of pre-hire 6-hour module
  • Ascension Nursing Contract Worker Onboarding: Completed onsite
  • Ascension Nova StatStrip Pre-Hire Modules: Required for non-allied positions prior to clearance

Optional Credentials

  • Influenza Vaccine Exemption/Declination (mask required if declined during flu season)
  • Positive PPD with Negative Chest X-Ray and Annual TB Questionnaire (optional if applicable)
  • Ascension Unit Specific Checklist (optional, uploaded by unit leader)
  • CPI/MOAB High Risk On-Site Portion (to be completed at orientation)
  • Hiring Manager Evaluation (post-assignment)
  • Ascension Name Change Documentation (if applicable)

Summary

This is a 13-week contract RN ICU position in the Medical ICU at Ascension Health’s Wichita facility. Candidates must meet extensive credentialing and onboarding requirements including licensure verification, immunizations, health screenings, certifications (BLS, ACLS), and completion of Ascension-specific competency exams and training modules. The role requires readiness to comply with both clinical and administrative onboarding processes to ensure compliance with Ascension Health standards.
