Job Opportunity: RN Step Down - Travel Position

Location: Milwaukee, Wisconsin
Facility: WIMIL CSM Milwaukee Hosp (Ascension Health)
Employment Type: Travel
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Description

  • Work schedule: Every Other Week (EOW) and Every Other Holiday (EOH)
  • Requires 2 years of experience in PCU (Progressive Care Unit) / Med-Surg Telemetry Acute Care
  • Placement on a unit with the greatest need: PCU, Med/Surg, or Telemetry unit based on skills
  • Accepts RN credentials for Med/Surg or Stepdown (same credentialing for both)
  • Must be willing to float onsite within skill set or to other sites within 40 miles if needed

Required Certifications & Licenses

  • BLS (Basic Life Support) - Must be American Heart Association (AHA) certified
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) - Must be AHA certified
  • Nursys Verification - Within 30 days prior to start; disciplinary actions require FACIS Questionnaire
  • Current Nursing License - Primary source verification within 30 days prior to start
  • Driver's License/State ID - Valid, must match address requirements

Required Training & Competencies

  • Ascension Color Vision Test - Completed prior to start, updated every 3 years
  • Ascension Core Competencies - HIPAA, Joint Commission NPSG, OSHA topics; completed within a year of start, updated yearly, minimum 80% score
  • NIH Certification - Group A updated yearly, Groups B-F every 2 years
  • Ascension EKG Exam - Passing score of at least 80%, two attempts allowed
  • Ascension Specialty Exam - Completed prior to first assignment, updated every 3 years, minimum 80% or national benchmark passing score
  • Ascension Epic Test-Out - Required for Epic system proficiency
  • Ascension Skills Checklist - Clinical skills checklist, completed within one year of start, updated annually
  • Ascension 12 Panel Drug Screen - Completed within 30 days prior to start, updated annually thereafter

Onboarding & Professional Requirements

  • Ascension Onboarding Requirements Education Attestation
  • Ascension Nursing Contract Worker Onboarding
  • Ascension Nova StatStrip Training
  • Ascension Profile (Resume)
  • Ascension 2 Professional References - At least two professional references required
  • Ascension Criminal Background Check - Includes SSN trace, employment verification, OIG search, national sex offender check; updated annually or if break in service > 90 days
  • Ascension EPLS (Excluded Parties List System) Check - Within 90 days of start, rerun if break in service > 90 days
  • Ascension Education Verification - Verification of education relevant to clinical work within 90 days of start
  • Ascension Confirmation of Assignment - Provided upon initial assignment and updates with extensions
  • Ascension Employment Verification - Third-party verification for past 7 years, updated annually or if break in service > 90 days

Health & Immunization Requirements

  • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) - Documented proof of two vaccines or positive IGG titer; no declinations accepted
  • Hepatitis B - Documentation of vaccination series completion or signed declination
  • Varicella - Proof of two vaccines, serological immunity, or history verified by healthcare provider; no declinations accepted
  • Tdap (Tetanus, Diphtheria, Pertussis) - Valid within 10 years; no declinations accepted
  • Fit Test - Required for all travelers; preferred prior to start, can be completed onsite; specific mask types required for WI and MI
  • Positive PPD / Negative Chest X-Ray and Annual TB Questionnaire - Must provide positive IGRA or PPD results, chest x-ray within a year showing no infection, and completed TB questionnaire; updated annually
  • 2 Step PPD OR IGRA (Quantiferon/Tspot) - Required within 1 year and 30 days of start
  • Health Statement - Statement of good health or physical exam prior to first assignment, updated annually
  • Influenza Vaccine - Optional but recommended; flu season October 1 through March 31; exemptions accepted with mask requirement
  • Ascension Influenza Vaccine Exemption/Declination - Mask required if declined

Additional Notes

  • Must provide a forward-facing headshot with white or blue background (no alterations or filters) for badge photo
  • Must be willing to comply with floating requirements within skill set or to nearby sites
  • All required documents and verifications must be uploaded and completed as per Ascension Health policies
