Job Description
The Emergency Nurse provides care to patients with urgent or critical illness, emergency care needs, and non-urgent treatment. Responsibilities include:
- Triage patients based on care requirements
- Ongoing assessment of patient condition
- Immediate interventions and discharge teaching
- Care for diverse populations including pre-natal, neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients
- Collaborate on an interdisciplinary level, adapting communication to patient's intellectual and physical abilities
Required Licenses and Certifications
- Massachusetts RN License (no conditional licenses accepted)
- BLS (Basic Life Support) certification
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) certification
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) certification
- CPI or MOAB certification (de-escalation training including violent patients)
Required Credentials and Compliance
- Primary source verification of professional license and certifications within 30 days of start date
- MGB Badge Photo (recent color photo, no filters, plain background)
- Fit Test for N95 respirator within 365 days of start date, updated annually
- MGB Advanced Dysrhythmia Exam (minimum 80% passing score)
- Documentation of MMR vaccination or immunity proof
- Influenza vaccine required during flu season (Sept 15 - April 30) with no exemptions
- TB test documentation within 3 months of start date (skin test or blood test)
- Physician Health Statement within 365 days of start date
- Criminal background checks including Massachusetts CORI, national sex offender registry, and exclusion lists (OIG, GSA, MassHealth, NH Medicaid)
- Education verification of highest level achieved
- Resume including past 7 years of work experience with city and state
- Two recent references (minimum one supervisor or above)

- Confirmation of Assignment/POI Form upon acceptance and for extensions
Preferred/Optional Credentials
- Hepatitis B vaccination or immunity proof (strongly preferred)
- Tdap vaccination within 10 years (preferred)
- Positive PPD with negative chest x-ray documentation if applicable
Additional Notes
- No religious or medical exemptions allowed for fit testing or influenza vaccine
- Fit testing cannot be performed onsite except in limited cases for assignment extensions on Martha’s Vineyard & Nantucket
- CPI/MOAB training can be completed onsite within 30 days if necessary
- Background checks and credential verifications must be current and updated if there is a break in service greater than 6 months
This position is ideal for experienced Emergency Room RNs licensed in Massachusetts who meet the certification and credentialing requirements and are comfortable working with a wide range of patient populations in a fast-paced emergency care environment.
