RN Labor and Delivery - Long-Term Assignment

Location: Cooperstown, New York
Specialty: Labor and Delivery (OB/LDRP)

Contract Length: 13 weeks

Unit Overview

• Average monthly deliveries: 80–90 (varies by month)
• Unit mix: Experienced RNs and new graduates gaining OB experience
• Traveler role: Essential support due to many new graduate RNs
• Unit features:

  • 4 Labor/Delivery/Recovery rooms (each with private bath, shower, spa tub)
  • 8 postpartum rooms with refrigerators and fold-out couches
  • Operating rooms for Caesarean births
  • Special care nursery

Candidate Requirements

• Experience:

  • Preferred: 3+ years OB experience
  • Considered: Less than 3 years if prior travel or specialized OB experience
• Required Certifications:

  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
  • Intermediate Fetal Monitoring Certification (AWHONN/Fetal Heart Monitoring)

Scheduling & Coverage

• Travelers must work every other holiday, similar to full-time staff
• Holiday requests approved based on unit needs
• Additional night shift RN travel contracts may become available

Onboarding & Compliance Requirements

• Licenses and Certifications:

  • Valid nursing license (Nursys verification)
  • BLS, NRP, Intermediate Fetal Monitoring Certification
• Facility-specific competencies and exams:

  • Bassett Core Competencies
  • Bassett Unit Exam
  • Bassett Skills Checklist
• Health and safety:

  • MMR, Hepatitis B, Influenza Vaccine, TB Test, Fit Test, Varicella, Physical/Health Statement
  • Annual TB Questionnaire
• Professional requirements:

  • Driver’s License or State ID
  • Background checks and registries (criminal, sex offender)
  • Employment and education verifications
  • Professional references
• Drug screening required
