Registered Nurse (RN) - PCU (Progressive Care Unit)
Location: Roanoke, Virginia
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Details
- Unit: PCU RN - 8West
- Shift: 3x12 hour nights (7 PM - 7 AM)
- Patient Ratio: 5:1
- Fast-paced, high acuity general medicine PCU
- Requires highly skilled, experienced, and flexible RNs
- Nurses must be willing to float as needed
- Christmas time off requests cannot be approved
Required Credentials & Documentation
- I9 or attestation
- Valid Driver’s License/State ID within 48 hours of signing (must be within 100 miles of facility)
- E-Verify or attestation
- Residency Declaration Form (if working on a compact license)
- 7-year background check within 1 year of start (covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years)
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start and updated for renewals
- Transcript or diploma verifying highest earned medical degree
- Education verification of highest earned degree
- State License primary source verification within 30 days of start
- NURSYS verification for all RNs within 30 days of start
- Physical exam within 1 year of start confirming freedom from communicable diseases
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year, updated annually
- TB questionnaire required for all candidates
- Drug screening: Negative 10-panel drug screen within 30 days of start
- Fit test within 1 year of start, updated annually (not required for students)
- Photo for badge (professional, plain background)
- New hire paperwork and compliance documents must be completed prior to start
- Orientation Safety Manual acknowledgment (HIPAA compliance)
- References: 2 clinical references or hospital evaluations
- Employment application/resume
- Skills checklist updated annually
Required Certifications (AHA Only, as applicable by unit)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
- TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course)
- CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) - required for Behavioral Health & ER Behavioral Health Annex
Additional Notes
- Candidates must complete fit testing regardless of prior fit test on file (except students)
- Flu vaccination is not required but those who decline must wear masks during flu season and sign a declination form
- Radiation badges are not provided for new candidates; existing badge holders will continue to receive badges until assignment ends
- VA State Police Search will be completed onsite on the first day of orientation for applicable candidates (no action required before start)
- Candidates must submit all required time-off requests upfront; no Christmas time off approvals
This position is ideal for experienced RNs comfortable with high acuity care in a fast-paced PCU setting, working night shifts, and flexible with floating assignments.
