Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract) - Madison, Wisconsin
Position Overview

Work Schedule
- Day/Evening shifts, 12 hours each
- Monday to Friday with some variation
- Typical shifts: 6:30 AM - 7:00 PM, with potential shifts from 9:40 AM - 10:10 PM
- Weekday and weekend call responsibilities
Unit Description
- Tier 2: Cardiac
- Requires experience in Cardiothoracic Surgery and/or Acuity Adaptable area (acuity level 3 or above)
Experience Requirements
- Minimum 2 years of acute care experience within the last 3 years
- Experience specifically in Cardiothoracic Surgery or Acuity Adaptable areas preferred
Licensure & Certifications
- Must hold a Wisconsin nursing license or a compact license from permanent state of residence
- BLS (Basic Life Support) and ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certifications required, American Heart Association (AHA) only
Transportation & Parking
- Parking permit required if parking onsite; alternative transportation options available (bus, park & ride, private parking)
Compliance & Documentation Requirements
- Background checks including SSN trace, county, nationwide, sex offender, and caregiver screening (WI Caregiver Screening required within 90 days of start)
- Drug screening per Vaya standard (clinical candidates)
- Education verification and diploma/transcript as applicable
- State license verification and NURSYS verification within 30 days of start
- Various competency exams including medication/pharmacology competency
- Pass/Fail testing for EKG/medication and telemetry exams (adult and pediatric as applicable)
- Signed acknowledgments for orientation safety manual and pass/fail testing
- Photo for badge (passport-style, no headwear except religious/medical)
- Health documents including:
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray (within required timeframes)
- Immunizations or exemptions for MMR, Varicella, Hepatitis B, Flu, Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap, Meningococcal vaccines
- Physical exam (per Aya standard)
- Facility-specific forms such as BID form (Wisconsin state mandated), communicable disease form, flu exemption forms (medical/religious), and others as required
Additional Notes
- Strict testing and remediation process for telemetry exams with up to 3 attempts allowed
- Medical and religious exemptions for vaccines require facility or agency approval
- Facility requires ongoing monthly monitoring for certain background checks (EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG)
- Candidates must comply with all facility-specific credentialing and compliance requirements prior to start date
This position is ideal for experienced acute care RNs with cardiac and cardiothoracic surgery experience seeking a travel contract in a top-ranked academic hospital setting with a structured orientation and compliance process.
