Registered Nurse - Labor and Delivery (Travel/Contract)
Location: Manchester, Connecticut
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Details

- Shift: 3x12 hour nights (7:00 PM - 7:00 AM)
- Scheduling: Block scheduling
- Experience Required: Minimum 2 years
- Patient Age Group: Neonates and Adults
- Labor Ratios:
- Labor: 1:1 or 1:2
- Couplet: 1:4
- Documentation Systems: Omnicell, MediTech, GE Centricity
- Communication System: SBAR
- Scrubs: Provided
Required Certifications
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- EFM-C (Electronic Fetal Monitoring Certification)
Required Skills and Competencies
- Antepartum care
- Labor and Delivery, LDRP (Labor, Delivery, Recovery, Postpartum)
- Mother/Baby care and couplet care
- Assist with sterile speculum exams
- Non-Stress Test (NST)
- Reflex checks, edema assessment, clonus
- Sterile vaginal exams
- Triage of obstetrical patients
- Use of Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM), external & internal fetal monitoring, and IUPC (Intrauterine Pressure Catheter)
- Recognition and treatment of abnormal fetal heart rate patterns
- Infant/neonatal resuscitation and arrest management
- Use of rapid response team
- Administration of blood and blood products
- Drawing venous blood
- Maintain central lines (CVC/PICC) and start/maintain peripheral IVs
- Use of infusion pumps, drips, and IV monitoring
- Administration of antihypertensives, magnesium sulfate therapy, Pitocin (Oxytocin), prostaglandins, terbutaline
- Radiant warmers and thermoregulation
- Metabolic screening and infant identification
- Discharge teaching to parents, cord care, car seat education
- Assist with circumcision and post-op assessment
- Newborn assessment including hypoglycemia and thermoregulation
- Teach circumcision care to parents
- Pain management including epidural anesthesia, general anesthesia, nitrous oxide, opioids
- Episiotomy/incisional care, Foley catheter insertion
- Fundus, lochia, perineum care, wound assessment and care
- Vaginal delivery, cesarean section, bladder distension
- Multiple births management
- Postpartum hemorrhage and pregnancy-induced hypertension management
- Isolation precautions and PPE use
- Vaccine administration
- Assist with vaginal delivery, circulate for C-section, forceps/vacuum extraction
- Hemorrhage/shock management
- Recovery post C-section
- APGAR scoring
- Baby nurse duties (“Baby Catcher”)
- Collect cord samples and ID/security banding
Time Off
- Pre-approval for time off considered on a case-by-case basis
Required Documentation and Compliance
- I-9 verification
- Government-issued photo ID
- 7-year background check including SS trace, county searches, national criminal and sex offender checks
- Annual EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks
- Education verification (diploma or transcripts)
- State license primary source verification
- Medication and competency exams (minimum 80% score)
- Facility-specific policies review (e.g., hand hygiene, COVID policies)
- Physical exam within 1 year
- Negative TB or chest X-ray within 1 year (2 negative PPDs or negative Qgold/Tspot acceptable)
- Immunizations or titers for Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella
- Drug testing (4 panel, within 1 year)
- Seasonal flu vaccination or declination during flu season (Nov 2 - Mar 31)
- COVID-19 vaccination requirements or approved exemptions (medical or religious) with timely submission of exemption forms
Notes
- Candidates within 75 miles are considered local and must be noted upon submission.
- Locals are considered at a reduced rate (not relevant here).
- First-time travelers may be accepted depending on relative experience.
