Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Opportunity
Location: Saint Louis, Missouri
Specialty: Registered Nurse (RN)
Facility Type: Short Term Acute Care, Magnet & Teaching Hospital, Level I Trauma Center
Unit: South Campus PACU (Post Anesthesia Care Unit)
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Schedule & Work Details
- Shift: 4x10 hour shifts, Monday-Friday
- Hours: 12:00 PM – 10:30 PM (rotating start times as needed)
- Weekend Requirement: No weekends, no call, no holidays
- Guaranteed Hours: 3 shifts per 13 weeks
- Floating: Yes, within scope to meet facility needs
- Block Schedule: Not accommodated
- Local Candidates: Not accepted (must live at least 75 miles from facility)
- Return to Office Restrictions: No more than 7 days
Patient Population & Unit Info
- Average Daily Census: 70-90 patients
- Number of Rooms: 38 patient bays
- Patient Population: Adults, occasional adolescents, geriatric patients
- Surgical Recovery Types: Neurosurgery, ENT, plastics, orthopedics, thoracic, vascular, trauma, general, colorectal, GYN, urological, electrophysiology, interventional radiology, transplant
- Exclusions: No open heart surgeries or liver transplants recovered here
- Unit operates 24/7 with dedicated PCT/transport team
- Care includes patients with artificial airways, invasive monitoring (including ICP), blood transfusions, vasoactive drugs, ventilated patients
Experience & Certification Requirements
- Experience:
- Minimum 2-3 years Level 1 ICU experience required
- Level 2 ICU experience considered (must specify during application)
- Critical care experience required
- Certifications Required:
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- Skills Required:
- Critical care and inpatient nursing
- Dysrhythmia recognition/management
- Blood product administration
- Phlebotomy
- IV starts and IV vasopressors
- ICP monitoring
- Care of ventilated patients
- First-time travelers accepted
- Pending license accepted
Facility & Documentation Requirements
- Charting System: EPIC
- Parking: $15/day or $70/month (for reference)
- Dress Code: Navy Blue scrubs
- Background Checks: Criminal background check within 6 months, including statewide and nationwide searches, education verification, and quarterly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks
- Licensure: Primary source verification required; Missouri licenses verified via NURSYS
- Competency Exams: Unit-specific competency exams required annually, including medication and dysrhythmia/EKG competency
- Health Documents:
- Physical exam within 1 year
- Fit mask test (N95) annually
- Immunizations and titers (TB, Tdap, MMR, Varicella, Flu seasonal vaccination) with exemptions handled per policy
- Drug testing within 1 year, must remain valid throughout assignment
- Facility Specific Documents: HIPAA acknowledgement, confidentiality form, latex allergy questionnaire, hand hygiene, fingernail, dress code policies, and others must be reviewed and signed prior to start
- References: Two professional references required (supervisors preferred)
Additional Notes
- Night shift may require learning pre-op patient workup
- Unit can accommodate some certifications onsite if needed (e.g., CPI, TNCC)
- No on-call or holiday shifts required
- Must comply with all facility policies and complete required training and documentation prior to start
This position is ideal for experienced ICU RNs seeking a travel contract in a high-acuity PACU setting within a Level I Trauma Center.
