Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)

Location: Madison, Wisconsin
Facility: University Hospital (Magnet®-designated, Wisconsin’s #1 hospital)
Specialty: Cardiothoracic Surgery and Transplant - CVICU / Acuity Adaptable Unit
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Work Schedule

• 12-hour shifts (Day: 0700-1930 and/or Night: 1900-0730)
• Every other weekend
• Some holidays
• No on-call required

Experience Requirements

• CVICU experience required
• Experience with NextStage CVVH machine required
• Experience in Cardiothoracic Surgery and/or Acuity Adaptable area preferred
• Minimum 2 years of acute care experience within the last 3 years
• Epic electronic health record experience required, preferably within the last 12 months
• Basic Arrhythmia experience required; must pass Telemetry test prior to start

Licensure & Certifications

• Wisconsin nursing license or compact license from permanent address state
• BLS & ACLS certifications must be American Heart Association (AHA) issued
• Telemetry test pass required before starting
• Additional certifications may be required depending on unit (e.g., PALS, NRP)

Job Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality care to patients on an acuity adaptable unit specializing in cardiac and thoracic surgeries, heart/lung transplants, and medical devices
• Deliver care combining technological expertise with patient and family-centered commitment
• Work as part of a multidisciplinary team in a specialized cardiothoracic surgery and transplant environment

Facility Requirements & Work Conditions

• Candidate’s permanent address must be within 50 miles of the primary work site
• Floating is expected; traveler may be assigned to multiple units or locations based on staffing needs
• Parking permit required if parking onsite; alternative transportation options available

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

• Background checks including SSN trace, nationwide, sex offender, and caregiver screening (WI-specific) within 90 days prior to start
• Drug screening required for clinical candidates
• Immunizations and health documents required:

  • TB test or chest X-ray
  • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or titers, with medical/religious exemptions accepted
  • Varicella vaccination or titer
  • Hepatitis B vaccination or declination form
  • Flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption (annual requirement)
  • Other vaccines as applicable (e.g., Tdap, Meningococcal for certain departments)
• Facility-specific forms such as caregiver screening, BID form, and communicable disease forms
• Telemetry competency exams (Adult and Pediatric) required and must be passed prior to or during orientation
• Medication/pharmacology competency exams as applicable
• Orientation safety manual acknowledgment and pass/fail testing acknowledgment required

• Candidates must be prepared for a dynamic work environment with potential floating to different units
