Registered Nurse (Pediatrics) - Travel/Contract

Job Details

Required Certifications

  • BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA or ARC only
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA or ARC only
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) - AHA or ARC only (Not required for Pediatric Stepdown)
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) - Required for NICU
  • TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) - Required for ER, preferred for Pediatric ER
  • EFM (Electronic Fetal Monitoring) - Required for Labor & Delivery RNs (not required at some locations)
  • CHEMO (Chemotherapy) - Required if working in Oncology (ONS or APHON for Pediatric Oncology)
  • CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) - Required for Psychiatry/Behavioral Health, preferred for ER RNs
  • NIH Stroke Certification - Required for most RNs except Behavioral Health, Case Management, Home Health, OR, Pediatric units, NICU
  • State License Verification - Must apply for CT license within 72 hours of start if not already licensed
  • NURSYS Verification - Must be run within 30 days of start

Background Checks & Verifications

  • 7-year Criminal Background Check (updated annually) including SSN Trace, Counties Lived/Worked, Statewide, National Sex Offender, National Criminal, Federal Extended
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM Check within 30 days of start
  • HHS/OIG Check within 30 days of start
  • Education Verification including Foreign Equivalency Education Evaluation for Internationally Educated RNs
  • Transcript/Diploma verification (official transcripts required if education verification cannot be completed)
  • Employment Application with 7-year work history and no gaps greater than 90 days
  • Work History Verification for last 7 years (attestations not accepted)

Competency Exams

  • Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam (85% passing score required)
  • Color Blind Testing (required for all candidates starting 8/2/2024, 80% passing score)
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam (required for Telemetry, MS/Tele, ER, ICU units; not required for Neuro ICU, SICU, NICU)
  • NICU Pharmacology portion of Competency Exam (for NICU nurses)

Health Requirements

  • Physical Exam within 12 months of start
  • Fit Mask Test within 12 months, updated annually (3M N95 preferred)
  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccination highly preferred for Pediatric specialties, L&D, Postpartum (Tdap declination accepted)
  • Negative TB test or Chest X-Ray documentation (various acceptable tests, TB questionnaire required annually)
  • Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella - Positive titer or 2 vaccinations required; boosters may be required if titers are low
  • Hepatitis B - Positive titer, vaccine series, or declination accepted (declination must be within 1 year)
  • Varicella - Positive titer, 2 vaccinations, or physician documented history; boosters required if low/equivocal
  • 10 Panel Drug Screen within 12 months of start (rapid accepted)
  • Seasonal Flu Vaccination or medical/religious exemption required during flu season (9/1 - 3/31)
  • COVID Vaccination preferred

  • Ventricular Assist Device Awareness (not required for some locations)
  • AME Blood Administration Module (except Case Managers, Behavioral Health/Psych, Home Health) - updated annually
  • New Employee Orientation Module
  • 21st Century Cures Act Module (required for most clinical roles except some techs and home health)
  • ED Handbook (for ED/ER RNs only)
  • eCart Training Module (not required for Pediatric, Periop/OR, Outpatient, Case Managers, Home Health)
  • Chaperone Policy Training (required for RNs and Allied Health)

Additional Notes

  • EPIC testing or training required for RNs with EPIC experience; testing must be completed prior to or during orientation
  • Mobile Heartbeat Alarm Module required for all RNs except ER/ED, Pediatrics, ICU, NICU
  • Attestation of Prior Radiation Exposure required for certain tech and specialty roles
  • Candidates must be clean-shaven for fit testing unless approved for medical or religious exemption
