Registered Nurse - Med/Surg Telemetry

Location: Cleveland, Ohio
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Description

  • Position at a major hospital campus in Cleveland, Ohio.
  • Med/Surg Telemetry Registered Nurse role.
  • Shift: 3 twelve-hour shifts per week (3x12's), rotating day/night shifts (7pm-7:30am / 7am-7:30pm). Shifts may vary based on hospital needs.
  • Must work at least every other holiday.
  • Must have at least 18 months of permanent experience in the specialty prior to travel assignments.
  • Must have 18 months of recent Med/Surg or Telemetry experience (travel experience accepted).
  • Must hold a permanent Ohio nursing license or a compact state license.
  • Required certifications: AHA BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS.
  • ECG rhythm recognition test and SafeMedicate test must be passed during orientation.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Licensing:

    • Permanent Ohio RN license or compact state license in hand.
    • Primary source license verification required within 30 days of start.
    • NURSYS verification required within 30 days of start.
  • Experience:

    • Minimum 18 months permanent experience in specialty.
    • Minimum 18 months recent Med/Surg or Telemetry experience.
  • Certifications:

    • BLS (AHA Instructor or Provider; RQI acceptable)
    • ACLS (AHA Instructor or Provider; RQI acceptable)
    • NIH Stroke Certification (AHA, Apex, AACME, or Bluecloud only)
    • Pass/Fail ECG & Medication testing during orientation (SafeMedicate).
  • Background Checks:

    • Comprehensive background check including FCRA compliant 7-year search.
    • Monthly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks.
    • FBI and BCI fingerprinting within 48 hours of contract signing, results required within 12 months and updated annually.
    • Fingerprinting must be done under code 4723.09 (Nursing).
    • Facility will conduct their own fingerprinting in addition to agency process.
  • Health & Immunizations:

    • Physical exam within 1 year of start, including Snellen eye exam (for candidates signing 4/11/2025 or later).
    • Fit mask test (3M N95 1860 small/regular or 1870+) within 12 months, updated annually.
    • Tdap vaccine every 10 years (religious/medical exemptions reviewed case-by-case; declinations not accepted).
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months, updated annually.
    • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccinations or positive titers required.
    • Hepatitis B vaccination or titer or declination documentation.
    • Varicella vaccination or positive titer required.
    • Standard 10-panel drug screen within 12 months, updated annually (instant drug screens not accepted).
    • Seasonal flu vaccine or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season (10/31 - 03/31).
  • References & History:

    • Two professional references from within one year of start, from a manager, supervisor, or director (co-worker references not accepted).
    • Employment application must include 3 years prior work history with at least 2 years clinical practice in acute care in a similar area.
    • Annual skills checklist required.

Orientation & Training

  • Completion of online training modules prior to start is mandatory.
  • Modules must be completed on a computer using Google Chrome; cannot be completed on a phone.
  • Candidates cannot skip training videos; must watch before testing.
  • Orientation includes ECG rhythm recognition and SafeMedicate testing.
  • Pass/fail testing required for all bedside RNs except OR.
  • Modules typically take multiple days to complete and must be finished before clearance to start.

Additional Notes

  • Candidates must carry a government-issued photo ID during assignment.
  • Candidates may start with fingerprinting results pending but must complete fingerprinting prior to start.
  • Facility accommodates latex allergies with notification.
  • Candidates with facial hair failing fit mask test must shave or submit exemption for approval.
  • Return candidates with less than 40-day gap between assignments may have some requirements waived (e.g., physical exam, eye exam, chest X-ray).
  • Candidates must be prepared to work rotating shifts and holidays as required.

This position is ideal for experienced Med/Surg Telemetry RNs licensed in Ohio or compact states, who are comfortable with rotating shifts and meet the comprehensive credentialing and health requirements.
