Description
Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position
Location: Charleston, South Carolina
Facility Type: Level I Trauma Center, Teaching Facility, Magnet Hospital
Unit: 7A Family Medicine (18 Bed Medical Surgical Unit)
Shift: 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM - 7:30 AM)
Patient Ratios: 1:4 to 1:5
Weekend Requirement: 4 weekend shifts per month
Holiday Rotation: Yes
Floating: May be required to float within scope to like units
Experience Required: Minimum 1 year
Licensure: South Carolina RN license or Multi-State/Compact RN license
Certifications Required:
- BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA or ARC only
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA only, required for certain units
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) - Required for pediatric units
- Other certifications may be required depending on unit (e.g., TNCC, NIH Stroke Certification)
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Facility Highlights
- Total Staffed Beds: 820
- Charting System: EPIC
- Scrub Color: Solid Royal Blue or White top with Royal Blue bottoms
- Parking: Permit required with a registration fee; additional fees may apply for parking outside designated garage
- Hurricane Season: June through November; employees and contractors may be assigned to emergency response teams during this time
Scheduling & Staffing Notes
- Block schedules may be accommodated with manager approval and unit needs
- Local candidates considered on a case-by-case basis within a 60-mile radius
- Return to Office (RTO) restrictions must be submitted and approved based on facility needs
Required Documentation & Compliance
Licensure & Verification
- SC RN license or Compact license required with primary source verification
- NURSYS verification required for all RNs
- Licensure hits must be approved by facility
Background Checks
- Annual background check covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years
- Required searches include SSN Trace, Statewide, Sex Offender Registry, National Criminal, FACIS 3, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG
- Education verification required; diploma or transcripts accepted as placeholder if needed
Certifications
- BLS and ACLS certifications must be current (not expiring within 30 days of start)
- PALS required for pediatric units
- Other certifications such as TNCC, NIH Stroke Certification, CHEMO (for Oncology units), EFM, and Tech Certs may be required depending on unit
- IV Therapy certification required for select LPNs
Health & Immunization Requirements
- Physical exam updated annually, attesting ability to meet job demands
- Fit test for N95 mask within 90 days prior to start, renewed annually
- Tdap vaccine within 10 years or declination form required
- Negative TB test (T-spot or Q-Gold) within 90 days or chest x-ray if previously positive
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella: Positive titer or vaccination series required; boosters may be needed for low titers
- Hepatitis B: Titer, vaccine series, or declination required
- Drug screen: 10-panel urine drug screen within 90 days of start
- Seasonal Flu vaccine required during flu season (Aug 1 - Apr 30) or medical/religious exemption accepted (no declinations)
- COVID-19 vaccination not required but highly preferred; declination form required if not vaccinated
Facility Specific Requirements
- Completion of orientation modules prior to start (approx. 2 hours)
- Upload COVID and flu vaccine documentation into facility system
- Passport-style photo for badge required before start
- Radiation badge required for certain specialties (e.g., CVOR, Cath Lab, Radiation Oncology)
- References: Proof of 2 clinical references or hospital evaluations
- Employment application with complete work history including PTO, contract assignments, and agency names
- Competency exams and medication/pharmacology tests as applicable
- Color blindness test required prior to start

- Travelers may be assigned to emergency response teams during hurricane season (June-November)
- Failure to complete required modules or documentation prior to orientation may result in being sent home
- Facility may require floating to other units within scope
- Local candidates accepted with possible pay adjustment
