Registered Nurse (RN) - ICU
Location: Saint Louis, Missouri
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Details
- Unit: ICU (Medical and Surgical Intensive Care Unit)
- Patient Ratio: 1:2
- Experience Required: Minimum 2 years
- First-timers Accepted: No
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
- On-call: No
- Floating: Yes, within ICU service line
- Block Schedule Accommodation: No
- Locals Accepted: No (must live at least 75 miles from facility)
- Pending License Accepted: Yes
- Return to Origin Restrictions: No more than 7 days
- Guaranteed Hours: 3 shifts per 13 weeks (cancelled shifts must be regular shift length)
- Shift Hours: 36 or 48 hours per week
- Contract Length Options: 13 or 26 weeks

- Management of multisystem organ dysfunction/failure
- Obtaining and interpreting 12 lead EKG/ECG
- Central Venous Pressure Monitoring (CVP)
- Pulmonary Artery Line/Swan Ganz monitoring
- Management of chronic/acute renal failure and CRRT/dialysis
- Arterial line management
- Blood product administration
- Central line and PICC line care/management
- Starting and maintaining IVs, continuous IV sedation
- Emergency medication administration
- Titration of cardiac and vasoactive drips
- CVA/Acute stroke management
- BiPAP assistance and ventilator management
- Interpretation of arterial blood gases (ABGs)
- Respiratory failure management and suctioning (ETT, NT)
- Infection prevention and isolation precautions (PPE use)
- Phlebotomy
- Care of surgical wounds with drains and wound vacs

Compliance and Documentation Requirements
- Government-issued ID required
- Criminal background check within 6 months (7-year search including statewide and nationwide checks)
- Quarterly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks
- Education verification of highest nursing degree required
- Fingerprinting required for Illinois long-term care or rehab float assignments
- Primary source verification of professional nursing license (Missouri licenses verified via NURSYS)
- Drug testing within 1 year of start, must include standard panels and be current throughout assignment
- Physical exam within 1 year of start
- Fit mask testing required annually (N95 models specified)
- Immunizations and titers required or declinations accepted for:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap
- TB testing or questionnaire
- Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella
- Seasonal flu vaccination or exemption during flu season
- Facility-specific documents including HIPAA acknowledgement, confidentiality form, latex allergy questionnaire, hand hygiene, fingernail, and dress code policies must be reviewed and signed prior to start
- Unit-specific competency exams required annually, including medication/pharmacology and dysrhythmia/EKG competency exams
- References: Two professional references required (supervisors preferred)
- Employment application and unit-specific skills checklist required within 1 year of start
Additional Notes
- Candidates must adhere to facility policies including dress code, hand hygiene, and fingernail policies or risk being sent home
- Floating within ICU service line expected to meet facility needs
- No block scheduling accommodations available
- Locals not accepted; must live at least 75 miles away from the facility
This position is ideal for experienced ICU RNs with strong critical care skills and certifications, looking for a travel contract in a Magnet, Level I Trauma teaching hospital setting.
