Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position
Location: Cleveland, Ohio
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Details
- Shift: Night shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7pm - 7am)
- Experience Required: Minimum 18 months recent Med/Surg Telemetry experience (permanent prior to travel)
- Licensing: Must have a permanent Ohio nursing license or compact state license in hand
- Certifications Required:
- AHA BLS & ACLS (must be willing to obtain NIHSS prior to start)
- References: One recent reference from a manager, ANM, supervisor, or director in the specialty applying for is required (Charge RN references accepted)
- Testing: ECG rhythm recognition test and SafeMedicate test during orientation; passing scores required
Required Documents & Compliance
- Government-issued photo ID (Driver’s License or State ID)
- Background checks including:
- FCRA compliant 7-year search
- EPLS/GSA/SAM (monthly)
- HHS/OIG (monthly)
- Fingerprinting (FBI and BCI) within 48 hours of contract signing, results required within 12 months and updated annually
- Education verification (required for all candidates)
- Physical exam within 1 year of start, including Snellen eye exam (required for new candidates signing 4/11/2025 or later)
- Fit mask test (N95) within 12 months, updated annually
- Immunizations and health screenings:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (every 10 years)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months, updated annually
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccinations or positive titers
- Hepatitis B vaccination or titer
- Varicella vaccination or positive titer
- Flu vaccine or approved medical/religious exemption (required during flu season)
- Drug testing: Standard 10-panel drug screen within 12 months, updated annually
- Eye exam within 1 year of start (new candidates)
- References: Two references from employment within one year of start, from a manager, ANM, supervisor, charge nurse, or director (co-worker references not accepted)
- Employment application including 3 years prior work history with at least 2 years clinical practice in acute care in a similar area
- Annual skills checklist and competency exams (unit-specific)
- Annual orientation safety manual acknowledgement
- Pass/fail testing for ECG and medication during orientation (required for bedside RNs except OR)
Certifications Summary
- Required:
- BLS (AHA Instructor or Provider, RQI acceptable)
- ACLS (AHA Instructor or Provider, RQI acceptable)
- NIH Stroke Certification (AHA, Apex, AACME, or Bluecloud only)
- Preferred/As Applicable:
- PALS (for PICU, Pediatric Stepdown, ERPediatric OR)
- NRP (for L&D, OB/GYN, NICU)
- TNCC (preferred for ER)
- Chemotherapy certification (not required for Oncology)
- National tech certifications for CVOR and NBSTSA specialties
Orientation & Training
- Completion of Cleveland Clinic Ohio Nursing online training modules prior to start (must be done on a computer using Google Chrome; cannot be completed on a phone)
- SafeMedicate preparation materials provided for pass/fail exam during orientation
- Modules typically take multiple days and must be completed before clearance to start
- Candidates returning to Cleveland Clinic with less than 6 months gap may not need to re-orient
Additional Notes
- Candidates must carry government-issued photo ID while on assignment
- Fingerprinting must be completed both through the agency and at the facility
- Candidates can start with fingerprinting results pending if fingerprinting is completed prior to start
- Physical exam must confirm ability to safely perform essential job functions, with or without accommodation
- Facility accommodates latex allergies with notification
- Religious and medical exemptions for vaccines are reviewed case-by-case; declinations are not accepted
- Flu vaccine exemptions require agency and facility approval
- Drug screens must be standard 10-panel; instant drug screens are not accepted
