Job Overview

• Provide patient care under supervision of unit leadership.
• Deliver nursing care through assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation.
• Guide patient teaching and ancillary personnel activities.
• Maintain professional nursing standards and facility policies.
• Focus on superior patient and family experience.

Primary Responsibilities

• Assess physical, psychological, social, and educational needs of patients on admission; complete written assessment timely.
• Develop and initiate written care plans within 24 hours of admission.
• Implement care plans and document effectiveness; update at least every 24 hours.
• Provide emotional, psychological, and spiritual support to patients and families.
• Promote patient independence through education on condition, medications, and self-care.
• Ensure quality of care by adhering to therapeutic standards and regulatory requirements.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to resolve patient problems.
• Follow infection control, medication administration, and controlled substance protocols.
• Maintain continuity of care through documentation and communication with healthcare teams.
• Use leadership skills to delegate, communicate with, and evaluate team members.
• Recognize and respond to changes in patient status with appropriate interventions.
• Provide ongoing patient and family education based on daily assessments.
• Prioritize care based on individual patient needs.
• Initiate referrals for discharge planning in collaboration with case management.
• Participate in continuing education, unit/hospital committees, and staff meetings.
• Communicate unit problems through proper channels and engage in problem-solving.
• Demonstrate patient safety practices and support hospital mission, policies, and standards.
• Provide age-appropriate care based on growth and development principles.

Requirements

• Minimum 2 years Med Surg experience.
• Experience floating to Progressive Care Unit (PCU).
• Proficient with Telemetry.
• ACLS (AHA) and BLS (AHA) certifications required.
• COVID-19 vaccination required (exemptions allowed).
• Ability to read and interpret heart rhythms.
• Must pass dysrhythmia test prior to floor assignment.
• Active Michigan RN license.
• Work history and skills checklist current to 1 year.
• Two supervisory references with employment dates.

Contract Length

• 13 weeks
