Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position
Location: Charlottesville, Virginia
Facility: University of Virginia Medical Center
Job Details
- Specialty: Registered Nurse

- Contract Length: 13 weeks
- Shift: Days
- Hours: 36 or 48 hours per week
- Holiday Policy: Every other holiday off; Christmas RTO not approved
- Time Off: Maximum 40 hours approved for time off
Experience Requirements
- Minimum 2 years nursing experience required
- At least 1 year Level 1 experience OR 2 years Level 2 experience
- Some pediatric experience required
Licensure & Certifications
- Virginia nursing license required (can submit with license pending)
- Required Certifications (must have before start unless noted):
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
- TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) - can submit pending but must have before start
Required Documentation & Compliance
- Proof of I9 or Attestation
- Government issued photo ID (must be carried during hours of service)
- Background checks including:
- 7-year criminal check within 60 days of start, updated annually
- EPLS/GSA/SAM checks within 30 days of start, updated every 30 days
- HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start, updated every 30 days
- Education verification through 3rd party vendor (official transcript acceptable)
- Transcript/Diploma (official transcript required; photocopy of diploma not accepted)
- Fingerprinting (Virginia VSP National Criminal Background Check required for some units)
- Abuse Registry Search (required only for Behavioral Health and certain units)
Health & Immunization Requirements
- Initial physical exam attesting ability to meet physical demands, updated annually
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccination (no declinations or exemptions allowed)
- Negative TB test or Chest X-Ray (2-step PPD or Qgold acceptable; Tspot not accepted)
- Annual TB questionnaire if past positive
- Measles (Rubeola): 2 vaccines or positive titer required (no declinations/exemptions)
- Mumps: 2 vaccines or positive titer required (declination accepted but does not hold clearance)
- Rubella: 2 vaccines or positive titer required (declination accepted but does not hold clearance)
- Hepatitis B: Positive Hep B Surface Antibody titer required or negative Surface Antibody AND negative Antigen titer (no declinations/exemptions)
- Varicella: 2 vaccines or titer required (titer can be negative with declination)
- Drug Testing: 10-panel drug screen including Marijuana and Fentanyl, within 2 months of start and updated annually
- Seasonal Flu Vaccination: Required annually by deadline, no exemptions or declinations accepted
Facility Specific Requirements
- Completion of various facility-specific forms prior to start (e.g., screening, release authorization, professional appearance guidelines)
- Fit testing for patient-facing clinical roles (completed onsite if required)
- Latex allergy questionnaire if applicable
- Pass/Fail Cardiac Rhythm Assessment required during orientation for adult inpatient RN positions and Mother-Baby units (not required for some specialties)
Additional Notes
- References: Proof of 2 clinical references or hospital evaluations required
- Performance evaluations and internal evaluations required if previously worked with the system over 1 year
- Skills checklist must be updated annually for applicable units
- Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) certification required for Behavioral Health nurses
This position offers a clinical review and auto-offer process and allows submission with certain certifications or licenses pending, provided they are obtained before the start date.
