Registered Nurse (ED) - Travel/Contract
Location: Saratoga Springs, New York
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Position in Emergency Department (ED)
- Must be able to start before Christmas and work on Christmas
- Minimum 5 years current ED experience preferred
- Must have NY nursing license in hand
- Required certifications:
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
- NIH Stroke Certification
- Must pass hospital proctored rhythm identification test with >80% accuracy overall and 100% on critical rhythms
- Experience with EPIC charting and Omnicell medication system required
- Skills in telemetry required
- Preferred certifications/skills:
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- Triage experience
- Level 1 trauma experience
- Must be willing to float to other units as needed based on skillset and manager discretion
- Locals within 50 miles radius not accepted (specific counties excluded)
- Flu vaccine required by November 1; medical or religious exemptions must be approved 2 weeks prior to start
- Minimal Return to Office (RTO) time: 7 days or less
Required Documents & Certifications
- Government issued photo ID (Driver’s License/State ID)
- Background checks including:
- 7-year SS trace and county searches
- Nationwide and sex offender checks
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG annual checks
- NY State-specific registry search for behavioral health travelers
- Certifications:
- ACLS (American Heart Association or American Red Cross)
- BLS (preferably AHA or Red Cross)
- PALS (preferably AHA or Red Cross)
- NIH Stroke Certification (assigned if not on file)
- Successful completion of EKG/ECG advanced testing with a minimum 90% score and 100% on lethal rhythms within 72 hours of contract signing (3 attempts max with remediation if needed)
- Competency exams including medication/pharmacology and dysrhythmia/EKG competency
- Child Abuse Mandatory Reporter Training (New York State requirement for all RNs and LVNs/LPNs)
- Facility-specific documents such as lift assessment, FCRA authorization, ECG study guide, TSH medical history, N95 OSHA questionnaire, PPD questionnaire, HealthStream orientation modules, and religious exemption request if applicable
Health & Safety Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year of start (onsite physical with Occupational Health required)
- Fit mask test (N95 OSHA questionnaire and fit test required; quantitative test only accepted for 3M 1870 mask)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year (2-step PPD or Quantiferon Gold accepted; T-spot not accepted)
- Immunizations and titers required:
- Measles (Rubeola): 2 MMR boosters or positive titer
- Mumps: 2 MMR boosters or positive titer
- Rubella: 2 MMR boosters or positive titer
- Varicella: 2 boosters or positive titer or history of chickenpox
- Hepatitis B: titer, declination, or vaccine series
- 10-panel drug screen within 60 days of start (specific lab and panel requirements)
- Flu vaccine or approved exemption required by December 5, 2024 (masking required if exempt)
- Eye exam including Ishihara color deficiency test prior to start (can be completed onsite)
- COVID-19 vaccinations are preferred but not mandated
Additional Notes
- Must complete virtual general orientation and clinical testing modules via HealthStream by 7 a.m. Wednesday prior to start date
- Flu season runs from December 5 until NYS DOH declares it over or vaccine expires (may extend into June)
- Travelers must not reside in specified local counties within 50 miles of Saratoga Springs
- Must be prepared for possible floating to other units based on skillset and management needs
This position is ideal for experienced ED Registered Nurses licensed in New York who meet the certification and testing requirements and are willing to work a 13-week travel contract outside of the local area.
