Location: South Hill, Virginia

Job Description
- Position in a community hospital setting (Medical-Surgical/Telemetry unit).
- Local candidates allowed at the same rate.
- New travelers must have at least 2 years of experience.
- Community hospital experience preferred.
- EPIC electronic health record system required.
Required Credentials & Documentation
Licensure & Certifications
- Permanent RN license required (no temporary licenses accepted).
- NURSYS verification required for all RNs.
- ACLS, BLS, PALS, NRP, TNCC certifications as applicable per unit job description (AHA only).
- NIH Stroke Certification as applicable.
- Certified OR Tech/Surgical Tech (CST) accepted for tech roles; MRI Tech requires ARRT certification.
- Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement including HIPAA compliance required.
Background Checks & Verifications
- Criminal background check within 60 days of start, including:
- All states lived/worked in past 7 years
- State of permanent residence
- VA Statewide Repository Search
- Social Security Trace
- All counties lived/worked in past 7 years
- Nationwide check
- FACIS Level 3
- Sex Offender Registry
- Education verification or diploma proof
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start.
- Fingerprinting (Virginia State Police) required for certain units (Pediatrics, NICU, Psych, Children’s Hospital units). Results can pend but proof of submission must be on file.
- Virginia Central Registry (CPS) search required for Pediatrics, NICU, Behavioral Health, and Labor & Delivery units. Must be completed within 48 hours of contract signing; candidates may start with results pending if proof of submission is provided.
Health & Immunization Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year attesting ability to meet job demands.
- Medical fit test for mask (Fit Mask) within 1 year prior to start; PAPR or Pro Gear required.
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccine required; declination accepted if handwritten.
- Negative TB test (Q-gold/T-spot within 30 days or two PPDs including one within 30 days of start). Chest X-ray required within 6 months if PPD positive.
- TB questionnaire updated annually, required for all candidates.
- Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella titers required; boosters required if low titers.
- Hepatitis B titer, vaccine series, or declination accepted.
- Seasonal Flu vaccination or approved exemption required for the 2025-26 season; declinations not accepted without exemption form.
- Drug testing within 30-60 days of start; instant drug screens not accepted. Must cover a 9-panel drug screen (amphetamines, barbiturates, benzodiazepines, cocaine, methadone, opiates, phencyclidine, propoxyphene; marijuana not required).
Competencies & Exams
- Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam required for RNs and LVNs/LPNs (not required for RN Case Managers).
- Color Blind Testing required.
- Abuse Reporting Competency covering physical/sexual abuse, domestic violence, neglect, or exploitation of elderly/incapacitated adults.
- Competency exams required for Sonography or Vascular Tech roles.
- Skills checklist required and must be updated annually.
Facility Specific Requirements
- Orientation includes exams/tests such as Pharmacology Exam, Point of Care Testing, Airborne Precaution Mask Fitting (not pass/fail).
- Basic Knowledge Assessment Tool (BKAT) required for RNs and LPNs in Tele/Step-Down, Progressive Care, and ICU units.
- Completion of assigned learning modules (~6 hours) during orientation week.
- Photo for badge required prior to document due date with specific photo guidelines (neutral background, no hats/glasses glare, etc.).
- Confidentiality agreement required prior to start.
Additional Notes
- Two professional references required.
- Complete application/resume required.
- Performance evaluations completed at end of assignment, not required prior to start.
- Candidates must carry government-issued photo ID during hours of service.
- Proof of primary residence must match compact licensure; otherwise, candidate cannot work the assignment.
