Medical Surgical RN - Meridian, Idaho

Job Overview

• Position: Medical Surgical Registered Nurse (Med/Surg RN)
• Location: Meridian, Idaho
• Assignment Type: Travel assignment
• Contract Length: 13 weeks
• Shift: 12-hour shifts (7:00 AM - 7:30 PM)
• Hours per week: Approximately 36 hours
• Weekend Requirement: 5 weekend shifts in a 6-week period
• Holiday Requirement: Yes, if needed
• Scheduling: Scheduler assigns shifts; no block scheduling
• Floating: May float between MedSurg 5, MedSurg 6, a 9-bed overflow unit, and other like units within the system (including nearby facilities about 8 miles away). May also float to ER for holds or 1:1 assignments.

Unit Details

• Department: Medical Surgical, 5th Floor
• Number of Beds: 42
• Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: Typically 1:5, occasionally 1:6 (rare)
• Charge Nurse: Present on each shift; rarely takes patients
• Additional Support: ADT nurse on day shift assists with admissions, discharges, and tasking
• Nurse Aids/Patient Care Techs: Yes, ratio approximately 1:8
• Tele/Monitor Techs: Virtual tele techs; RNs read and interpret their own telemetry strips
• Respiratory Therapy Equipment: CPAP, BiPAP (managed by RT), high flow oxygen

Patient Population & Common Diagnoses

• Orthopedic: Total joint replacements, hip fractures, spine surgeries (lumbar and cervical)
• Urology: Procedures including continuous bladder irrigation (CBI)
• General Surgery: Cholecystectomies, bowel resections, complicated mastectomies
• Gynecology Overflow: Total hysterectomies
• Medical Overflow: COPD, some behavioral health cases, sepsis, infections

Required Experience & Skills

• Minimum 2 years of Medical Surgical nursing experience
• EPIC electronic medical record experience required
• Ability to read and interpret telemetry strips
• Willingness to take students and potentially precept new travelers

Certifications

• BLS (Basic Life Support) required
• EKG certification required

Clinical Responsibilities

• No requirement to titrate drips
• Common drips on unit: heparin, PCAs, morphine drips
• Orientation: 3 days general orientation including EPIC training and educator meeting, plus 2 shifts on unit with a preceptor; online modules to complete before assignment start

Dress Code

• Scrubs: Any color allowed as long as clean and professional
