Medical Surgical RN Travel Assignment - McCall, Idaho

Job Details

• Location: McCall, Idaho
• Unit: Medical Surgical McCall Hospital Floor 2
• Beds: 13
• Shift: 12-hour shifts (7 AM or 7 PM start)
• Schedule: 3 shifts per week, self-scheduling with first schedule to fill gaps; blocks considered to meet unit needs
• Weekend Requirement: Every other to every third weekend
• Holiday Requirement: Occasionally
• Call Requirement: 2 shifts per contract
• Floating: Rarely, primarily on the unit; may float to ER as needed

Contract Length

• Duration: 13 weeks

Patient Population & Care

• Common diagnoses include:

  • Post orthopedic surgeries
  • Pneumonia (PN)
  • COPD
  • CHF
  • General surgical cases (cholecystectomy, appendectomy, mastectomies)
  • Atrial fibrillation with RVR
  • MI / rule out chest pain
  • Pediatric respiratory cases (RSV, pneumonia) - preferably assigned to core staff with experience

Nurse to Patient Ratios

• 1:4 without CNA
• 1:3 with CNA

Staffing & Support

• Charge Nurse: Present on each shift; serves as a resource house-wide and covers as house supervisor over Medical Surgical and Labor & Delivery units
• CNA: 1 per unit; duties include vital signs, ADLs, Foley catheter removal, and sterile procedure setup (no labs or IV starts/removals)
• Tele/Monitor Techs: Virtual monitor tech available; RN expected to read basic telemetry

Required Certifications

• BLS
• ACLS
• PALS

Experience & Skills

• Minimum 1 year of Med-Surg nursing experience
• First-time travelers are acceptable
• RNs are required to titrate drips including insulin, Cardizem, and heparin

Equipment & Procedures

• Respiratory therapy equipment includes nasal cannula, some high flow, CPAP, and BiPAP
• Telemetry monitoring available; RN should be comfortable with basic tele reading

Orientation

• 1-2 shifts of unit/department-specific orientation

Dress Code

• Any color professional scrubs allowed

Note: Candidates must reside outside a 50-mile radius of the facility to be considered.
