Description

Registered Nurse (ICU Nights) - Saint Louis, Missouri

Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks (approximately 3 months)
Facility Type: Acute Care Hospital
Unit: ICU Nights
Shift: Nights
Patient Ratio: 1:2
Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours per week (3 shifts of 12 hours)
Start Date: Biweekly starts, 3-4 weeks per compliance tier


Job Requirements

  • Licensure: Current and up-to-date nursing license (Missouri)
  • Experience: Minimum 2 years ICU experience required
  • Certifications:
    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA only
    • BLS (Basic Life Support)
    • NIH Stroke Certification (required for all nurses)
    • BCLS and NIH also required
  • Skills:
    • Experience with hemodynamics
    • Ability to titrate cardiac and vasoactive drips
    • Bedside tracheostomies (trachs) and PEG care
    • Frequent cardiac outpatient monitoring
  • Preferred: Experience with EPIC electronic charting system and some machine experience
  • Weekend Requirement: 6 weekend shifts in a 6-week period, every other weekend
  • On-call: Not required
  • Floating: Floating within scope to meet facility needs is expected
  • Local Radius Rule: 75 miles (locals not accepted)
  • Pending License: Accepted
  • Return to Office (RTO) Restrictions: 7 days

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

Background Checks

  • Criminal background check within 6 months (7-year search including statewide, nationwide, and international if applicable)
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG quarterly checks
  • Education verification of highest nursing degree (cannot pend at start)
  • State-specific searches (Missouri and Illinois) as applicable
  • Fingerprinting required for Illinois long-term care or rehab units (not required for BJC IL Home Care)

Certifications & Verifications

  • Primary source verification of professional nursing license (NURSYS for Missouri)
  • IV Certification required for LPNs/LVNs in Missouri
  • Other certifications as applicable by unit: PALS, NRP, TNCC, EFM, MAB/CPI, NIH Stroke Certification
  • Medication and unit-specific competency exams required and must be updated annually

Health Requirements

  • Physical exam within 1 year of start
  • Fit mask testing (N95) required and must be renewed annually
  • Immunizations and titers:
    • Tdap (or declination) every 10 years
    • Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 1 year
    • Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella immunity or vaccination/declination
    • Flu vaccination or medical/religious exemption required during flu season
  • Drug testing within 1 year of start, must include specific panels and be valid throughout assignment

Facility Specific Documents

  • HIPAA Acknowledgement, Latex Allergy Questionnaire, Confidentiality Form, Regulatory Compliance Education (annual)
  • Badge photo and Aya Healthcare badge required
  • Hand hygiene, fingernail, and dress code policies must be reviewed and signed prior to start
  • Orientation modules (approx. 16 hours) required before start

Additional Notes

  • First-time travelers are not accepted for this position
  • References: Two professional references required, preferably supervisors within the last year
  • Skills checklist required within 1 year of start, including oncology skills if applicable
  • Performance evaluations may be requested but are not required for extensions or per diem
  • Floating within scope is expected to meet facility needs

This position is ideal for experienced ICU RNs with strong critical care skills, ACLS certification, and familiarity with EPIC charting, seeking a travel contract in a well-established acute care hospital setting.
