Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (RNFA) - Travel/Contract
Location: Saint Louis, Missouri
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Days
Guaranteed Hours: 40 hours/week
Call Requirement: 1 day per week and 1 weekend every 8th weekend
Weekend Requirement: 1 weekend every 8 weeks
Local Radius Rule: 75 miles (locals not accepted)
Return to Office Restrictions: 7 days every 13 weeks
Position Details
- Specialty: RNFA (Registered Nurse First Assistant)
- Experience Required:
- Minimum 5 years as RN
- Minimum 3 years as RNFA
- Experience in orthopedic, general, and spine surgery required
- Skills Required:
- Acute inpatient operating room experience
- Must be a certified RNFA (CSFA, SFA, etc. not accepted)
- Shift Ratios: 1:1 during day shifts
- Call: Required as noted above
- First-timers: Not accepted
- Scrubs: Provided
- Charting Systems: Pyxis, Epic, SBAR
- Special Requirements: Must complete BJC Privileging process before starting
Certifications & Licenses
- Required:
- Current RN license (Primary source verification required)
- RNFA certification (specific to RNFA, no substitutes accepted)
- BLS (Basic Life Support) preferred
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) as per unit requirements
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) if applicable
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) if applicable
- TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) if applicable
- EFM (Electronic Fetal Monitoring) if applicable
- IV Certification (for LPN/LVN if applicable)
- CPI or MAB (Crisis Prevention Institute or Management of Assaultive Behavior) if applicable
- NIH Stroke Certification (required for all nurses)
- Verification:
- NURSYS verification for Missouri licenses
- Education verification of highest nursing degree required
- Additional:
- Some units may require IEMA (Illinois Emergency Management Agency) certification or MANDT certification (behavioral health units)
Compliance & Background Checks
- Criminal background check within 6 months of start (7-year search including statewide and nationwide checks)
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks quarterly
- Fingerprinting required for Illinois long-term care or rehab units (not required for BJC IL Home Care)
- State-specific searches for Missouri and Illinois as applicable
- Abuse registry checks as required by state regulations
- Drug testing within 1 year of start, must include specific panels (amphetamines, barbiturates, benzodiazepines, cocaine, methadone, opiates, oxycodone, PCP)
- MO FCSR Worker Registration Form for certain clinical areas (time sensitive)
Health & Immunization Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year of start
- Fit mask testing (N95 respirators) required and must be renewed annually
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccine or declination (Td acceptable for renewals)
- Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 1 year (two negative PPDs or T-Spot/Q-Gold acceptable)
- Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella immunity or vaccination required with specific exemptions not allowed in certain units (e.g., NICU, bone marrow transplant)
- Hepatitis B declination required (vaccine not mandatory)
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption required during flu season (Sept 30 - April 1)
Facility Specific Requirements
- Must complete BJC Healthcare HIPAA Acknowledgement annually
- Must complete BJC Latex Allergy Questionnaire annually
- Must complete BJC Confidentiality Form annually
- Must complete BJC Regulatory Compliance Education annually (via WorkRamp, passing score 80%)
- Must review and sign BJC Hand Hygiene, Fingernail, and Dress Code Policies prior to start
- Badge photo required (head and shoulders, white background, no obstructions)
- BJC Orientation Modules required for all RNs and LVNs (approx. 16 hours, due prior to start)
- Vehicle registration form not required for this facility for day shifts
Additional Notes
- Two professional references required (supervisors preferred)
- Unit-specific skills checklist required within 1 year of start (Oncology skills checklist required for Med Surg-Oncology Unit)
- Performance evaluations may be requested but are not mandatory for extensions or per diem
- Employment application must be submitted and uploaded for facility review
This position requires a highly experienced RNFA with specific surgical experience and certifications, compliance with extensive background and health screenings, and completion of facility-specific onboarding and training modules.
