Registered Nurse (CVU Nights) - Saint Louis, Missouri

Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Description

  • Work in Cardiovascular Unit (CVU) during night shifts.
  • Must have a current and up-to-date nursing license.
  • ACLS certified.
  • Minimum of 2 years CVU experience required.
  • Experience with hemodynamics and ability to titrate cardiac and vasoactive drips.
  • Preferred experience with cardiac assistive machines and EPIC electronic charting system.
  • Patient Ratios:
    • ICU shifts: 1:1
    • Telemetry shifts: 2:1
  • Weekend Requirement: 6 weekend shifts in a 6-week period (every other weekend).
  • No on-call required.
  • Floating within cardiac service line units may be required.
  • Locals within 75 miles radius not accepted.
  • Pending licenses accepted.
  • Return to Office (RTO) restrictions: 7 days.
  • Guaranteed hours: 36 hours per week on 3-12 hour shifts.
  • Special patient population: cardio-thoracic surgery, open heart patients, TAVR, post cath lab, post cardiac surgery patients with telemetry.
  • Travelers required to work holidays as necessary.

Required Certifications

  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA only
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA only
  • NIH Stroke Certification (required for all nurses)
  • Other certifications may be required depending on unit (e.g., PALS, NRP, TNCC, CPI/MAB, EFM) — check unit-specific requirements.

Licensure & Verification

  • Must have a valid nursing license (Missouri licenses verified via NURSYS).
  • Pending licenses accepted.
  • Primary source verification of professional license required.
  • IV Certification required for LPNs/LVNs if applicable.

Background Checks & Compliance

  • Criminal background check required within 6 months of start (7-year search including statewide and nationwide).
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required quarterly.
  • Education verification required prior to start.
  • Fingerprinting required for assignments in Illinois long-term care or rehab units.
  • State-specific searches required for Missouri and Illinois.
  • Drug testing required within 1 year of start and must remain valid throughout assignment.
  • References: Two professional references required (supervisors preferred).

Health Requirements

  • Physical exam within 1 year of start.
  • Fit mask testing (N95) required and must be renewed annually.
  • Immunizations/vaccinations required or documented immunity for:
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (every 10 years)
    • TB testing (2 negative PPDs or equivalent within 1 year)
    • Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella (positive titer, vaccination, or declination)
    • Seasonal Flu vaccination or approved exemption during flu season.
  • Hepatitis B declination required (vaccination not mandatory).
  • Drug screening with specific panels required.

Competency & Skills

  • Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam required.
  • Unit-specific competency exams required annually.
  • Skills checklist required within 1 year of start (oncology skills checklist if applicable).

Facility Specific Requirements

  • Badge photo required (head and shoulders, white background, no obstructions).
  • HIPAA Acknowledgement, Latex Allergy Questionnaire, Confidentiality Form, Regulatory Compliance Education, Hand Hygiene Policy, Fingernail Policy, Dress Code Policy must be reviewed and signed prior to start.
  • Orientation modules required for all RNs and LVNs, completed through WorkRamp prior to start.
  • Various facility-specific forms and questionnaires must be completed and uploaded.

Additional Notes

  • Floating may be required within cardiac units.
  • Travelers must be prepared to work holidays.
  • Locals within 75 miles are not accepted for this travel position.
  • Pending licenses are accepted.
  • Weekend shifts are mandatory as specified.

This position is ideal for experienced CVU nurses with strong cardiac care skills, who are ACLS certified and comfortable working in an acute care hospital setting with complex cardiac patients.
