Description
Registered Nurse (RN) - Pediatric ICU / Cardiac
Location: Madison, Wisconsin
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift Details
- Day/Evening shifts, 12 hours (7:00 AM - 7:30 PM)
- Working every Friday through Sunday
Experience Requirements
- Minimum 3 years of experience in high acuity hospital settings (1st time travelers allowed)
- Strong Pediatric ICU experience required
- General cardiac experience required
- Level II experience considered
- EPIC experience required (preferably within the last 12 months)
- Must have completed 2 years of acute care experience within the last 3 years
Licensure & Certifications
- Wisconsin Registered Nurse license or compact license from permanent address state
- BLS (American Heart Association only)
- PALS (American Heart Association only)
- ACLS preferred (check unit description)
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) recommended
- Telemetry: Basic Arrhythmia experience required; must pass Telemetry test prior to start
Education
- Baccalaureate degree in nursing preferred
Facility & Unit Information
- Work in a 21-bed state-of-the-art pediatric medical and surgical unit
- Provide family-centered care to critically ill or injured children
- Patient conditions include acute head injuries, neurological disorders, pulmonary diseases, cardiac anomalies, organ transplantation, multi-system organ failure, and ECMO
- Floating required: may be assigned to multiple units or locations based on staffing needs
- Permanent address must be within 50 miles of the work site
Testing & Competency Requirements
- Pass Pediatric Telemetry Test (WorkRamp LMS) prior to start and annually
- Pass Adult Telemetry Test if applicable
- Medication/Pharmacology competency exams as required
- Pass/Fail testing for EKG/Medication with strict deadlines and remediation process
- Color Blind Testing (if applicable)
Background & Compliance Requirements
- Background check within 90 days prior to start, including SSN trace, counties, nationwide, sex offender search
- Monthly monitoring through workforce monitoring systems
- Education verification required for RN (Associate degree or higher)
- Wisconsin Caregiver Screening within 90 days of start
- High School Diploma/GED verification as applicable
- Employment application and annual skills checklist required
Health & Immunization Requirements
- Physical exam (must meet Aya standard)
- Fit mask test completed onsite
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap: proof of one adult Tdap vaccination required
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months (various acceptable test types)
- TB Questionnaire required annually
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella): 2 doses or positive titers required; medical/religious exemptions considered
- Varicella: 2 doses or positive titer required; medical/religious exemptions considered
- Hepatitis B vaccination series and titer or declination form required for direct patient care
- Flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required annually during flu season
- Meningococcal vaccine or declination required if working in Microbiology

- Facility is Magnet®-designated and a Level One Pediatric Trauma Center with Level IV NICU
