Registered Nurse (RN) - Medical Surgical

Location: Saint Louis, Missouri
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Details

  • Start Date: Approximately 3-4 weeks out depending on compliance tier
  • Patient Ratios: 1:4-5
  • Experience Required:
    • 2 years preferred
    • 1+ year accepted if experience is at a Level 1/Teaching Facility
  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
  • Certifications Required: BCLS (Basic Cardiac Life Support)
  • On-call: Not required
  • Floating: Yes, within service line and scope
  • Block Schedule: Not accommodated
  • Locals Accepted: No (home address must be at least 75 miles from facility)
  • Pending License Accepted: Yes
  • Return to Office (RTO) Restrictions: No more than 7 days of RTO per 13-week contract
  • Guaranteed Hours: Yes, minimum 3 shifts per 13 weeks (cancelled shifts must be regular shift length)
  • Special Skills Required: Phlebotomy & Starting IVs

Required Documentation & Compliance

Licenses & Certifications

  • Government-issued ID (Driver’s License/State ID)
  • Professional License Primary Source Verification (Missouri licenses verifiable on NURSYS)
  • BCLS certification required
  • Additional certifications may be required depending on unit (e.g., ACLS, PALS, NRP, TNCC, CPI, MAB, NIH Stroke Certification)
  • IV Certification required for LPN/LVN in Missouri
  • Background checks including:
    • Criminal background check (7-year search, statewide, nationwide, international if applicable)
    • EPLS/GSA/SAM quarterly checks
    • HHS/OIG quarterly checks
    • State-specific searches (Missouri and Illinois)
    • Fingerprinting for Illinois long-term care or rehab units
  • Education verification of highest nursing degree
  • Competency exams as applicable (medication, oncology, dysrhythmia/EKG)

Health Requirements

  • Physical exam within 1 year of start
  • Fit mask test (N95) annually
  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccine or declination
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray (2 negative PPDs or T-Spot/Q-Gold within 1 year)
  • Immunizations or immunity documentation for:
    • Rubeola (Measles)
    • Mumps
    • Rubella
    • Varicella
  • Drug testing within 1 year of start, must not expire during assignment
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption required during flu season (09/30 - 04/01)

  • Latex Allergy Questionnaire (annual)
  • Confidentiality Form (annual)
  • Regulatory Compliance Education (annual, must score 80% or higher)
  • Hepatitis B declination (annual)
  • TB Questionnaire (annual)
  • Hand Hygiene Policy acknowledgment
  • Fingernail Policy acknowledgment
  • Dress Code Policy acknowledgment
  • Orientation Modules (required for all RNs and LVNs, approx. 16 hours, completed prior to start)
  • Vehicle Registration form for day shift workers
  • Badge photo (head and shoulders, white background, no obstructions)

References & History

  • Two professional references required (supervisors within last year preferred)
  • Employment application required
  • Unit-specific skills checklist within 1 year of start (Oncology skills checklist required for Med Surg-Oncology Unit)
  • Performance evaluations may be requested but not required for clearance or extensions

Additional Notes

  • Candidates must adhere to all facility policies and complete all required documentation prior to start.
  • Floating within the service line may be required to meet facility needs.
  • Local candidates are not accepted; must live at least 75 miles from the facility.
  • Pending licenses are accepted.
  • RTO days are limited to 7 days per 13-week contract.
  • Guaranteed minimum shifts ensure at least 3 shifts per contract period.
