Women's Services RN - Travel Assignment (LDRP Unit)
Location: Nampa, Idaho
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: 12-hour shifts (7a-7p and 7p-7a)
Unit: LDRP (Labor, Delivery, Recovery, Postpartum)
Job Overview
- Seeking an RN with 3+ years of experience in Women's Services, specifically Labor & Delivery (L&D), Postpartum, and OR Circulation/Triage.
- Ideal candidates must be able to attend deliveries, provide 1 hour of newborn care, circulate C-sections, and provide postpartum couplet care.
- First-time travelers are accepted.
- Float to multiple sites within the St. Lukes Treasure Valley system (Meridian, Nampa, Boise) in primary skill set or as a sitter.
Unit Details
- LDRP Beds: 14 (patients stay in the same room throughout stay)
- OR Suites for C-Sections: 2 suites (RNs circulate and recover)
- Triage Beds: 4 (travelers will staff)
- Birth Volume: Approximately 90 births/month, 1200/year
- Staffing Ratios (AWHONN guidelines):
- Labor: 1:1 (except 2 cervical ripening patients paired)
- Postpartum: 1:3 couplets
- Triage: 1:3 (up to 4 patients with resource nurse support)
Required Certifications
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
- STABLE certification
Patient Population & Common Diagnoses
- Gestations 32 weeks and greater
- Hypertension requiring magnesium sulfate
- Blood alcohol content (BAC) monitoring
- Trial of labor after cesarean (TOLAC)
- Gestational diabetes
- Antepartum patients (no placenta previa or accreta)
- Diverse patient population, including many referred from home birth midwives for medical intervention and pain control
Skills & Experience Required
- Minimum 3 years L&D experience
- Mother-baby experience preferred (at least 1 year)
- Ability to attend deliveries and provide newborn care
- Experience with magnesium sulfate administration
- Charge nurse experience preferred
- Ability to titrate drips (Pitocin, Magnesium, Insulin occasionally)
Staffing & Support
- Charge RNs do not take patient assignments
- Admin supervisor on every shift
- Resource RN assists with breaks, attends deliveries, stabilizes newborns, and provides second sign-off on medications
- Triage RN manages triage beds, which fill quickly
- 1 CST (Certified Surgical Technologist) per shift
- 1 CNA per shift (may be reassigned to other roles if needed)
- OB hospitalist and Neonatal NP available 24/7
- Anesthesia available 24/7
- Respiratory therapy available for troubleshooting
- No tele/monitor techs; RNs read their own strips
- EFM system: Centricity
Scheduling & Orientation
- Shifts: 7a-7p and 7p-7a
- Resource and Charge shifts: 6:45a-6:45p and 6:45p-6:45a
- Travelers fill in schedule gaps; preference considered after initial placement
- No guaranteed block scheduling or working 6 shifts in a row
- No minimum weekend requirement; based on unit needs and requests
- No call or standby requirement
- Floating required to other sites within the system in primary skill set or as sitter
- Orientation: 4 shifts on unit covering C-section, labor, and postpartum care
- Compliance and EPIC Curio assignments must be completed before start
Additional Notes
- Hospital-issued scrubs required; must change in and out at start/end of shift
- No fingernail polish, acrylic, or gel nails allowed due to NICU proximity
- Travel duos require 2 cars due to floating between sites
- This is the only LDRP site within the system
- Facility enforces a 50-mile radius rule for candidates
