Registered Nurse - Home Health (Travel/Contract)
Location: Saint Louis, Missouri
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Details
- Shift: Days, 5x8 (08:00 - 16:30)
- Patient Visits: 5-20 visits per day on average
- Experience Required: Minimum 1 year (1-2 years Med Surg or acute care experience OR minimum 1 year home care experience required)
- First-timers Accepted: Yes
- Weekend Requirement: Every 4th weekend (Saturday and Sunday). When scheduled for weekend, 2 days off around it (Thursday and Monday).
- On-call Requirement: Yes, 3-5 nights per month. On-call nights only scheduled if worked that day (no call on days off).
- Floating: No floating outside scope of practice
- Locals Accepted: No
- Territory Coverage: 40-80 miles radius
- Guaranteed Hours: 40 hours/week
- Return to Office (RTO) Restrictions: 7 days notice to terminate contract before 13 weeks
Required Certifications & Licenses
- BLS (Basic Life Support) - Required
- Pending License Accepted: Yes
- Additional Certifications (may be required depending on unit):
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Procedure)
- TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course)
- EFM (Electronic Fetal Monitoring)
- IV Certification (for LPN/LVN if applicable)
- CPI or MAB (Crisis Prevention Institute or Management of Assaultive Behavior) if applicable
- State License Verification: Primary source verification required (Missouri licenses via NURSYS)
- Background Checks: Criminal background check within 6 months, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG, education verification, state-specific searches as applicable
Experience & Skills Required
- Home health experience required
- Skilled in:
- Phlebotomy
- Pleurex, catheters, port access and maintenance
- PT/INR finger sticks
- Wound vac and wound care
- Ventilator knowledge
- Compression wraps/layered compression
- Cardiac care including CADD pumps, handheld ECG monitor, telemetry interpretation
- Experience with diverse, high acuity patient population with limited resources
- Teams may include:
- MS Team: Antibiotic infusion, lab draws, IV care, ostomy care, tube feeding, wound vac, Foley care, disease management, patient education
- Cardiac Team: Infusions (inotropes, dobutamine, milrinone), IVP Lasix, post-op care
Equipment & Uniform
- Scrub color: Royal blue for nurses
- Close-toed shoes required
- Must have own stethoscope
- Charting system: EPIC
Compliance & Documentation Requirements
- Government-issued ID (Driver’s License required for Home Health)
- Criminal background check and various state-specific background checks
- Education verification of highest nursing degree
- Physical exam within 1 year of start
- Drug testing within 1 year of start, must include specific panels and be current throughout assignment
- Immunizations and health documents required:
- Tdap vaccine or declination
- Negative TB test or chest x-ray (2 negative PPDs or T-Spot/Q-Gold within 1 year)
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella immunity or vaccination/declination
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption during flu season
- Fit mask testing (N95) required and must be renewed annually
- Various facility-specific documents including HIPAA acknowledgement, confidentiality form, latex allergy questionnaire, hand hygiene policy, dress code policy, and orientation modules (approx. 16 hours) completed prior to start
- Return of all issued equipment (laptop, cell phone, nursing bag, supplies) required at contract end
Additional Notes
- Mileage reimbursement provided for travel within 40-80 miles radius
- Two professional references required (supervisors preferred)
- Unit-specific competency exams and skills checklists required and must be updated annually
- Candidates must adhere to facility policies including fingernail and dress code policies or risk being sent home
