Position Details

• Must have prior travel nursing experience
• Epic electronic health record system experience required (no exceptions)
• Certifications required: BLS (Basic Life Support) and NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
• Local candidates allowed at the same rate

Required Credentials & Certifications

• Permanent Virginia RN license (temporary licenses not accepted)
• NURSYS verification for RNs
• BLS (AHA only)
• NRP certification
• ACLS, PALS, TNCC certifications as applicable per unit requirements
• State-specific fingerprinting and background checks (Virginia State Police National Criminal Background Check)
• Proof of diploma or education verification from an accredited nursing program (NLN or CCNE)
• Medication/Pharmacology competency exam (as applicable)
• Color Blind Testing (required)
• Abuse Reporting Competency (covering physical/sexual abuse, domestic violence, neglect/exploitation)
• Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement including HIPAA compliance

Background & Screening Requirements

• Criminal background check within 60 days of start, including:

  • All states lived/worked in past 7 years
  • State of permanent residence check
  • VA Statewide Repository Search
  • Sex Offender Registry
  • Education verification
• EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start
• Fingerprinting (Virginia VSP National Criminal Background Check) required for NICU and Pediatrics units; results may pend but proof of submission must be on file
• Virginia Central Registry (CPS) search and documentation required for NICU and Pediatrics units; must be completed within 48 hours of contract signing

Health & Immunization Requirements

• Physical exam within 1 year confirming ability to meet job demands
• Tdap vaccine or declination (handwritten/wet signature required)
• Negative TB test or chest X-ray (Q-gold/T-spot within 30 days or two PPDs as specified)
• Annual TB questionnaire
• Titers and/or boosters for Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella
• Hepatitis B titer, vaccine series, or declination
• Drug screening within 60 days of start (9-panel minimum, instant screens not accepted)
• Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption (no declinations accepted without exemption form)

Orientation & Facility Specifics

• Pharmacology exam, Point of Care Testing, and Airborne Precaution Mask Fitting during orientation (not pass/fail)
• Basic Knowledge Assessment Tool (BKAT) for RNs/LPNs in Tele/Step-Down, Progressive Care, ICU units
• Completion of assigned learning modules (~6 hours) during orientation week
• Candidates must bring a mask (cloth acceptable), non-wireless headphones, and a laptop or cell phone (notify if not available)
