Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Opportunity

Location: Saint Louis, Missouri
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Details

  • Specialty: Registered Nurse (RN)
  • Unit: South Campus PACU (Post Anesthesia Care Unit)
  • Shift: 4x10 hour shifts, Monday-Friday, 12:00 PM - 10:30 PM, rotating start times as needed
  • Patient Population: Adults, occasional adolescents, and geriatric patients in a Level 1 Trauma Center
  • Average Daily Census: 70-90 patients
  • Rooms: 38 patient bays
  • Facility Type: Short Term Acute Care, Magnet & Teaching Hospital, Level I Trauma Center
  • Charting System: EPIC
  • Dress Code: Navy Blue scrubs

Experience & Skills Requirements

  • Years of Experience: At least 3 years of Level 1 ICU experience (higher value between 2-3 years specified)
  • Critical Care Experience: Required, including care of ventilated patients, artificial airways, invasive monitoring (ICP), blood product administration, IV vasopressors
  • Skills:
    • Dysrhythmia recognition and management
    • Phlebotomy and starting IVs
    • Care in Phase I PACU
  • First-timers Accepted: Yes
  • Weekend Requirement: No weekends, no call, no holidays
  • On-call: Not required
  • Floating: Yes, within scope to meet facility needs
  • Local Candidates: Not accepted (home address must be at least 75 miles from facility)
  • Pending License: Accepted
  • Return to Office Restrictions: No more than 7 days
  • Guaranteed Hours: 3 shifts per 13 weeks

Patient & Surgical Population

  • Recovering surgical patients from:
    • Neurosurgery
    • ENT
    • Plastics
    • Orthopedics
    • Thoracic
    • Vascular
    • Trauma
    • General surgery
    • Colorectal
    • Gynecology
    • Urology
    • Electrophysiology
    • Interventional radiology
    • Transplant (excluding open heart surgeries and liver transplants)
  • Unit has its own Patient Care Technician (PCT) and transport team
  • Unit operates 24/7

Certifications Required

  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
  • Additional certifications may be required based on unit (e.g., PALS, NRP, TNCC, CPI) — verify with unit specifics

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

  • Government-issued ID (Driver’s License/State ID)
  • Criminal Background Check (within 6 months) including statewide and nationwide searches
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks (quarterly)
  • Education Verification (highest nursing education)
  • State License Verification (Primary Source Verification required)
  • NURSYS Verification for Missouri licenses
  • Drug Testing (within 1 year, must include specific panels)
  • Physical Exam (within 1 year)
  • Fit Mask Testing (annual, N95 respirators required)
  • Immunizations and Health Documents:
    • Tdap vaccine or declination
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray with yearly questionnaire
    • Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella immunity or vaccination/declination
    • Flu vaccination or medical/religious exemption (seasonal requirement)
  • Facility-specific documents including HIPAA Acknowledgement, Latex Allergy Questionnaire, Confidentiality Form, Regulatory Compliance Education, Dress Code Policy, Hand Hygiene Policy, Fingernail Policy, and Orientation Modules (completed prior to start)
  • Skills Checklist (unit specific, within 1 year)
  • Competency Exams including Medication/Pharmacology and Dysrhythmia/EKG competency (annual updates required)

Additional Notes

  • No weekends, call, or holidays required
  • Night shift may require learning preoperative patient workup
  • Candidates must be prepared to work in a high-acuity, fast-paced environment with a diverse surgical patient population
  • Prior travel experience is not explicitly required for this position
