Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Opportunity
Location: Saint Louis, Missouri
Facility Type: Short Term Acute Care, Magnet & Teaching Hospital, Level I Trauma Center
Unit: South Campus PACU (Post Anesthesia Care Unit)
Job Details
- Schedule: 4x10 hour shifts, Monday-Friday, 12:00 PM - 10:30 PM, rotating start times as needed
- Contract Length: 13 weeks
- Average Daily Census: 70-90 patients
- Unit Size: 38 patient bays, open 24/7
- Patient Population: Adults, occasional adolescents, geriatric patients
- Surgical Recovery: Neurosurgery, ENT, plastics, orthopedics, thoracic, vascular, trauma, general, colorectal, GYN, urological, electrophysiology, interventional radiology, transplant (excluding open heart surgeries and liver transplants)
- On-Call: Not required
- Weekend Requirement: No weekends, no call, no holidays
- Floating: Yes, within scope to meet facility needs
- Local Candidates: Not accepted (home address must be at least 75 miles from facility)
- Pending License: Accepted
- Return to Office Restrictions: No more than 7 days
- Guaranteed Hours: 3 shifts per 13 weeks
Experience & Skills Requirements
- Specialty: Registered Nurse with critical care experience
- Required Years of Experience: At least 3 years of Level 1 ICU experience (higher value between 2-3 years and 3 years used)
- First-Timers Accepted: Yes
- Certifications Required:
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- Skills Required:
- Critical care experience in inpatient setting
- Experience in Level I Trauma Center
- Phase I PACU experience
- Dysrhythmia recognition and management
- Blood product administration
- Phlebotomy
- Starting IVs and IV vasopressors
- ICP (Intracranial Pressure) monitoring
- Care of ventilated patients
- Additional Notes: Night shift may require learning preoperative patient workup
Compliance & Documentation Requirements
- Background Checks:
- Criminal background check within 6 months (7-year search including statewide, nationwide, sex offender, and international if applicable)
- EPLS/GSA/SAM quarterly checks
- HHS/OIG quarterly checks
- State-specific searches and highway patrol checks as applicable
- Education Verification: Required, must be on file before start
- Licenses:
- Primary source verification of professional license required
- Missouri licenses verified via NURSYS
- Pending licenses accepted
- Competency Exams:
- Medication/Pharmacology competency exam as applicable
- Unit-specific competency exam, updated annually
- Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam required and updated annually
- Health Documents:
- Physical exam within 1 year of start
- Fit mask test (N95) required and renewed annually
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccine or declination
- Negative TB test or chest x-ray within required timeframe
- Immunizations or immunity documentation for Rubeola, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella
- Drug testing within 1 year of start, must include specific panels and be current throughout assignment
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption required during flu season
- Facility Specific Documents:
- HIPAA Acknowledgement
- Latex Allergy Questionnaire
- Confidentiality Form
- Regulatory Compliance Education (annual, via WorkRamp)
- Hepatitis B declination form (facility specific)
- TB Questionnaire (annual)
- Hand Hygiene Policy acknowledgment
- Fingernail Policy acknowledgment
- Dress Code Policy acknowledgment
- Orientation Modules (required for all RNs and LVNs, approx. 16 hours, completed prior to start)
- Badge photo and facility badge required
- References: Two professional references required (supervisors preferred)
- Skills Checklist: Unit-specific skills checklist required within 1 year of start
