Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position

Location: Rochester, New York
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Requirements

• License: Must have a New York RN license in hand (no exceptions)
• Experience: Minimum 1 year of nursing experience in MedSurg or related specialty
• Prior Travel Experience: Not required
• Patient Ratio: Able to manage a 1:5 to 1:7 patient ratio in MedSurg
• Unit Details:

  • 26 beds
  • Patient population includes CHF, acute MI, post-device care (pacemakers), and arrhythmias
• Floating: Required
• Electronic Medical Record: Proficiency in EPIC required

Certifications Required

• BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA Provider/Instructor/RQI accepted
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA Provider/Instructor/RQI accepted, as required by unit
• Other certifications may be required depending on unit (PALS, NRP, TNCC, EFM)

Skills and Competencies

• Cardiac monitoring and emergency response: interpretation and management of dysrhythmias, use of rapid response/code teams
• IV therapy and phlebotomy: peripheral line care/management
• Respiratory care: nasal cannula, oxygen face masks, portable oxygen tanks, non-invasive airway management
• Professional skills: isolation precautions
• Medication and pharmacology competency exams as required
• Color blindness testing required

Facility and Work Environment

• Tertiary care hospital with 528 staffed beds
• Scrub color: any combination of navy and white
• Charting system: EPIC

Health and Compliance Requirements

Candidates must complete the following health-related requirements and lab work within 5 days of signing the contract:

• Physical exam (within 1 year, updated annually)
• Fit mask test (annual)
• Negative TB test or chest X-ray (within 1 year)
• TB questionnaire (in lieu of annual TB test)
• Immunizations or titers for:

  • Rubeola (Measles)
  • Mumps
  • Rubella
  • Hepatitis B
  • Varicella
• Drug screening (within 30 days of start)
• Seasonal flu vaccination or signed declination (during flu season)
• Eye exam (Snellen, within 1 year)
• COVID vaccination copy preferred but not required

Background and Verification

• 7-year criminal background check (including felony checks) required within 3 months of start
• EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 3 months of start and run monthly
• Education verification from primary source required
• Foreign equivalency evaluation required if education obtained internationally
• Employment verification of at least 2 past employments required
• References: 2 references within 3 years required for Aya candidates (not facility requirement)
• State-specific checks including sex offender registry and Medicaid exclusion list required

Additional Notes

• Locals are not accepted; candidates must be located more than 75 miles from the facility
• Government-issued photo ID required
• Orientation safety manual acknowledgement required
• Primary source verification of state license required within 30 days of start
• NURSYS verification required within 30 days of start for RN licenses

This position is ideal for a Registered Nurse with MedSurg experience who is comfortable working in a fast-paced tertiary care setting, proficient in EPIC, and able to float as needed.
